Naughton Named Dean for Community Education at Harford Community College

Harford Community College has announced that Brandy Naughton is the new Dean for Community Education. She assumed the position on November 4, 2017. A Harford Community College employee for 18 years, Naughton served most recently as the Director for Adult Basic Education and Interim Director for Community Education. In addition, she has been an adjunct instructor in Student Development at HCC since 2016.

As Interim Director for Community Education, Naughton provided leadership and oversight of the College’s Community Education and Adult Developmental and Literacy Programs, which encompass avocational programs, adult learning programs, youth and senior adult programs, and the Early Learning Center. In her position as Director for Adult Developmental and Literacy Programs, which she held since 2009, Naughton provided leadership and oversight of the adult developmental and literacy programs, which serve approximately 2,000 students each year. Responsibilities included maintaining quality instruction in Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED, English as a Second Language (ESL), SAT preparation, job readiness courses, and more.

During her career, Naughton has held a number of other positions at the College including Director for tutoring Service-Learning, and Disability Support Services (February 2005-May 2009); Coordinator for Tutoring and Service-Learning (September 2003-February 2005); Coordinator for Tutoring (September 2000-September 2003); Student Support Services Counselor (September 1999-September 2000); Assistive Technology Specialist (July 1999-September 1999); and Art History Instructor (January 1999-May 2000).

In addition to her work at HCC, Naughton taught college-level online courses at Park University, Parkville, MO, from August to October 2015. She also served as a Teaching Assistant for Art History and Archaeology at University of Maryland, College Park, MD, from September 1995 to May 1997.

She was the recipient of the Harford County Local Management Board Champions for Children & Youth, Award for Outstanding Service to Children & Youth in 2013. In addition, she received a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award in 2008.

Naughton earned a Master of Arts in Art History and Archaeology from the University of Maryland, College Park. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Classical Civilization from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. In addition, she earned 12 graduate credits in Public Administration from the University of Baltimore. She also earned an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia, and is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership program there.

Brandy is committed to excellence, equity, and diversity in education. She is involved in many community boards and advisory groups, including the Harford County Local Management Board, the Susquehanna Workforce Network Youth Committee, the Havre de Grace Housing Authority Family Self Sufficiency Program Coordinating Committee, the Judy Center at Magnolia Elementary School Steering Committee, and the Harford County Early Childhood Advisory Council. Outside of work, Brandy is a lifelong learner who enjoys reading, art, museums, and travel.
