From the Chesapeake Figure Skating Club:
Skaters from the Chesapeake Figure Skating Club at Ice World in Abingdon took home bronze and pewter medals from the South Atlantic Regional Non-Qualifying Figure Skating Championships held in Vienna, Virginia.
Tacy Brown, 10, won the bronze medial in her qualifying event at the Pre-Juvenile Freestyle level. Skating to “Barn Dance” from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Tacy skated a clean performance, landing two double-double combination jumps to place third out of 12 skaters and qualify for the final round. In the final round, she placed 4th out of 12 skaters to win the pewter medal. Program highlights included a double flip/1/2 loop/double salchow, double lutz and biellman spin.
Ashley Maldonado, 14, also placed 3rd in in her Pre-Juvenile Freestyle initial round and qualified for the final round. Her program highlights included a double loop jump and a beautiful footwork sequence.
The South Atlantic Regional Non – Qualifying Figure Skating Championship was held September 29 – October 2. The competition included skaters from ten states and the District of Colombia.
