From the Aberdeen Police Department:
On Monday, September 10, 2016, at approximately 3:00 PM, members of the Aberdeen Police Special Operations Unit executed a search and seizure warrant in the Unit block of Liberty Street. Investigators searched the house and seized the following items:
1. Approximately one (1) pound of raw marijuana
2. Seven (6) mature marijuana plants
3. Two (2) shotguns
4. One (1) revolver
5. Packaging material, drug paraphernalia, and other related items
6. Seized US currency
Detectives arrested Jeffery Newman, 56, of Aberdeen. Newman was charged with possession of marijuana, manufacturing/growing CDS, Possession with Intent to Distribute, Drug Trafficking with a Firearm, Prohibited Possession of a Regulated Firearm, and other related charges. He was transported to the Harford County Detention Center for processing.
The Special Operations Unit is responsible for investigating violations of controlled dangerous substance laws in the City of Aberdeen. Anyone with information concerning drug violations occurring in your neighborhood is encouraged to call the Aberdeen Police Department at 410-272-2121 and make a report. Persons wishing to report information can remain anonymous.

The media frequently refers to any sort of CDS as “narcotics” whether or not the actual drug in question is classified as one. Marijuana is it’s own drug category.

It does not say weed is a narcotic, nor does the headline imply that weed is a narcotic. The article states that weapons and weed were discovered and seized as a result of a “narcotics investigation.”
I don’t see “narcotics” mentioned anywhere except in the headline. I doubt APD told The Dagger what headline to use for the press release.
The Dagger wrote a bad “political” headline for a police report. The Aegis had the same police report and they got the headline facts correct. The Dagger should apologize for bad journalism and promise to be fair and honest in the future.

This is a fly in the ointment. APD knows that they have a lot more drugs or guns out there. At least I hope they do. I hope they plan on focusing on them. Especially in the centerdeen area and over in the prostitution area by Walmart.

If you search the suspects name in case search and see his current active CR case you will notice “RIFLE/SHOT-POSS W/FEL CONV.”
Furthermore, it’s not “legal” to be in possession of firearms doing what the suspect was originally arrested for, hence, you see the firearms seized.
@North Harford Democrat – He has not been convicted for this crime yet. The charge you are mentioning is due to a past felony conviction. I can not find it on MD Case Search. However, a conviction that occurred prior to court records being computerized or a conviction from another state is plausible reason to charge him with the “RIFLE/SHOT-POSS W/FEL CONV”. He never should have had the weapons in the house due to his prior convictions…..

My last sentence reflects the firearms were going to be seized hypothetical if the suspect was not prohibited of firearm possession at time of arrest.
What a waste of police resources especially with the HUGE heroin problem in Harford County. Six pot plants and a couple guns were all this task force could come up with? Aberdeen police should be ashamed of themselves. Instead of minor 420 smokers who happen to own guns for protection, maybe Aberdeen police should focus on more important problems and issues in the town.
If I was the Chief of APD I would have kept this quiet, no bragging rights here. How much of taxpayer money went to this HUGE bust. What a freaking joke. But, its Harford County so its typical for these clowns. And yea, yea, yea, they confiscated some firearms, it appears that these firearms are in need of some work, I could take them out with a slingshot, WTF, way to go Harford County Clowns.
I think APD was trying to convey that they are an equal opportunity crime enforcement unit. No one can say say that APD practices discriminating police practices. The only catch in this case is the suspect, who was clearly in violation, will not play a race card. Refreshing!
