From the Harford County Public Library:
Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely, authors of “All American Boys,” the 2016 One Maryland One Book selection, will speak at the Abingdon Library on Monday, September 26, at 7 p.m.
In addition, 17 discussion groups centered around the book will take place in September and October at various Harford County Public Library branches, community centers and at the Hays-Heighe House at Harford Community College. Specific information on discussion dates and times may be found at hcplonline.org.
“All American Boys” is the story of two teenagers who grapple with the repercussions of a violent act that leaves their school, community and country divided by racial tension. The authors will discuss what inspired them to write the book and how they brought together diverse viewpoints.
“We are pleased to have the authors of this year’s One Maryland One Book with us in Harford County,” said Mary Hastler, CEO of Harford County Public Library. “‘All American Boys’ is a compelling, hard-to-put down read, and I’m sure our customers will be fascinated by hearing how the book came about. I know I will.”
“All American Boys” was named a 2016 Coretta Scott King Author Honor Book and was the recipient of the Walter Dean Myers Award for Outstanding Children’s Literature.
One Maryland One Book/Wandering Books is a program of Maryland Humanities and is offered in Harford County by Harford County Public Library and its partners Harford County Department of Community Services, Harford Community College Library and Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County.
