From the Aberdeen Police Department:
On Monday, August 8, 2016 at approximately 10:50 PM, Aberdeen Police were called to a report of a pedestrian struck on the CSX railroad tracks near the 100 Block of N. Rogers St.
Officers arrived and located a male, 24, suffering from injuries to his lower extremities. The injured person was transported by Aberdeen Fire Department Medic Unit #292 to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital, where their condition is stable.
Investigators determined that three individuals were walking on the CSX tracks in a prohibited area when a southwest bound train with 44 cars came upon the individuals. All parties jumped out of the way, the injured party did not fully clear the engine. The engineer activated all emergency warning devices to warn the pedestrians of the impending danger; however, the pedestrians waited to clear the tracks at the last second.
Investigators have charged Radford Ashford, 22, with trespassing in the incident; the third party fled the area prior to police arrival. Trespassing charges are pending for the injured person.
The Aberdeen Police Department wishes to remind the public of the inherent dangers of trespassing on railroad tracks. Also, trespassing on the tracks is criminally prohibited.
