From Harford Property Services:
Harford Property Services (HPS) is pleased to announce its pledge to help Harford County students achieve their full potential. During the school board budget process for the 2016-2017 school year, a decision was made to gap budget shortfalls by imposing a fee on extra-curricular activities of $100 per activity for each student.
“Our students and their families should not be burdened with fees in order to gain the benefit of participating in extra-curricular activities. For many families with two or more school age children, each participating in multiple programs through the school year, the financial weight is too heavy,” said J.D. Russell, President of HPS.
HPS has pledged to support the Havre de Grace High School Drama Club by paying each students “Pay to Play” fee this upcoming school year. “As a local business we want to see our youth get the most out of their High School experience. I challenge my fellow business owners to help students cover the cost of program fees for extra-curricular school activities in their communities,” said Russell.

The HCPS Budget is Still Not Balanced says
Thank you to this organization for supporting Havre de Grace students by covering their $100 drama fees! Shame on the board of education for unfairly singling out drama students and approving a $100 drama fee during the night with no notice to the community!
Shame on the board of education for also pretending to balance the HCPS budget with the drama fee. The drama fee will not balance the budget because the revenues will fall short just like before, when HCPS had a much smaller fee for all activities.
It’s a disgrace that it’s come to this and that students have to depend on private organizations because of the actions of the board of education.
The entire board of education needs to revote this fee and look at other places to seriously balance the budget. Every board of education member needs to be held accountable for being irresponsible with the budget.

And every HCPS administrator needs to be held accountable for the waste and mismanagement of the system.

Have you seen the salaries of the admin staff, and I’m sure the boe salaries aren’t to shappy either. It is unbelievable. This salary issue needs to be reviewed and cuts need to be made, I would bet there is a lot of duplication of effort that can be consolidated.
