From The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region:
On April 15, 2016, UMBC hosted the fourth annual “Kicks for Chase” soccer game featuring the UMBC Retrievers men’s soccer team against the George Mason Patriots. The game raised money for The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region (The Arc NCR), a nonprofit assisting people with differing abilities. In support of the event, the Enterprise Holdings Foundation awarded $1,500 to benefit The Arc NCR’s Treatment Foster Care program emergent placement project.
Treatment Foster Care (TFC) often receives emergency requests to place children who are suddenly removed from their homes due to neglect and/or physical or sexual abuse. When this occurs, children are placed in a foster family, but often arrive to the program with no clothing or personal care items. The few belongings they own are typically hastily thrown into a trash bag. TFC needs funds to supply these emergent placements with clothing, toiletries and luggage. This allows them to enter their new homes with a clean set of clothing, underwear, socks and personal hygiene items. Having these items in their very own backpack instead of a trash bag raises confidence and self-worth.
Thanks to the Enterprise Holdings Foundation and UMBC’s support, Treatment Foster Care will now have items on hand to assist these children.
You can help end the cycle of emotional trauma. Children are not trash. They deserve a loving home and proper support system. TFC trains and certifies foster parents. Potential parents can expect to receive initial training, as well as additional training throughout the year; children who are the best match for their home; frequent contact and support from licensed social workers; 24-hour emergency on-call services; individualized planning; and respite services. Certified foster parents then receive generous monthly funding to support their children. Treatment Foster Care needs homes and parents in Harford, Cecil and Baltimore Counties.
