From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
Through the efforts of State Senator Wayne Norman, Delegate Theresa Reilly, and members of the Harford County Delegation to the Maryland State Assembly, legislation was passed during the 2016 legislative session, and signed into law by Governor Hogan, that dedicates a portion of Maryland State Route 924 in honor of two fallen heroes.
A portion of the highway will now be known as “Heroes Highway”, in honor of Senior Deputy Patrick Dailey and Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were killed in the line of duty on February 10, 2016.
On Wednesday, July 6, at 3:00 p.m., the Harford County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Highway Administration will hold a dedication ceremony, unveiling the signs officially marking the renaming of the road.
Local Authority says
Why don’t they just name everything in honor of these guys and get over it. Enough already!
Local Authority is Idiot says
Let’s name it after you instead for all of your valuable contributions and sacrifices for others. Something like Asshead Alley might fit.
Local Authority says
Sure, as long as you shut down roads for parades, re-name a road “Not a Hero Highway” for me, change a law in Annapolis to accommodate my children, start a benevolent fund and fork over multiple THOUSANDS of dollars to my family all in my honor, etc., then yes, named it “Asshole Alley for me, and how about naming another road “Dickhead Drive” for you! Yes, let’s do this!
Local Authority is still an Idiot says
Happy to help get this done, all you have t do in return is die. Not just die, but to do so giving to the greater good. Of course in your case improving the gene pool might get us close. So let me know, or more appropriate, have someone let us know when your pos life is over and we will get the road named for you and take up a fund. My guess is if we knew your real name we might get $10, but hey, it’s something.

Ouch! Nice! Local Authority just got handed is ass.
Local Authority says
People in other occupations die in the line of their duty all of the time, and they don’t receive the aforementioned “perks”. So bite me morons.

Local Authority Has Shrinkage says
I think you should go to the next county council meeting and present your protests publicly. Let the county know that they are way out of line in honoring these officers who died in the line of duty. Then you should contact the people at the state level who are responsible for both changing the law, and renaming the highway, and post your letter in full, including your real name here on the Dagger.
You have the b@!!$ to make these statements anonymously; let’s see how big they are when it comes to stating them publicly.

@ Local authority. What is a life worth? If you were killed by a drunk driver would you want your family taken care of? Gofundme started to help them for funeral costs and other expenses and loss of income? You are jealous of the naming of a road for these men who died in the line of duty? You think monies raised has eased the grief of the family members left behind? Money can’t replace a father, husband or son. That money will dry up. You can not be this petty?

So, now that the childish arguing is over, maybe we can have an adult conversation.
Although the name Hero’s Highway is in remembrance of Mark and Patrick, I think the overall concept is greater than that. To me Hero’s Highway will be more than just remembering those two, but to center us as a society to think about all deputies as people. Its sad that it took 2 deputies to be killed for our community to come together the way it did. For a split second the police were not the enemy, they were not out to get us, maybe we didn’t have as much of an attitude when we were pulled over for something that was our fault. We actually went out of our way to smile at an officer, donate, say thank you, make food, put blue stripes on our cars. For a moment we actually showed appreciation for those who so thanklessly keep us safe from ourselves. So next time you drive down hero’s highway, remember Mark and Patrick, but also take a minute to smile at the police officer in the next lane over, and remember how quick they can go from the cop who pulled you over for texting, to being the officer who lays their life on the line for you.

Very well said.
farts mcgee says
How about we name the highway after all the people Harford County sheriffs have been publicly noted to have killed these last few years, including a teenage boy and military veteran in need of mental help.
This community is not unified and this policy force is dirty as it gets. Don’t fool yourself.
You must be from Bulle Rock.

farts mcgee,
If you want to be an ass, please do so in the privacy of your home, not on the Internet.
Hope this helps.
