From the Bel Air Police Department:
On Tuesday June 7, 2016 at approximately 8:44 pm, the Bel Air Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a resident of 400 block of Moores Mill Rd in Bel Air, MD 21014 that a male neighbor had a shotgun and had attacked another male.
The caller identified the subject with the gun as Robert Harris. Mr. Harris was confronted by Bel Air Police Officers as he retrieved a shotgun from under a blanket, the Officers were able to disarm Mr. Harris without injury to anyone.
Mr. Harris had been involved in a disagreement with a roommate and reportedly threatened the roommate with the same shotgun after striking him with a steel pipe. Mr. Harris’ roommate suffered large bruise from being struck with the pipe.
Mr. Harris was charged with several counts of assault and weapons violations and taken to the Harford County Detention Center and is held on $75,000 bail.
And conservative’s want less gun control.
This is exactly why we need more gun control so people just have less and less opportunity to get to one with their criminal intent.

It’s not easy to get a handgun, you have to be screened for a history of violence and psychiatric hospital stays/emergencies, you also need reasonable cause to have one. That’s not the same for shotguns and rifles. Let’s just say when I was younger, I went to visit my friends at their place in Edgewood. One of them had a shotgun, got drunk and walked down the street with it for fun. I wasn’t too pleased….Harris lives in Bel Air, it’s a pretty safe town to live in, you don’t need a shotgun. You’re far more likely to be in danger by someone you live with or know well, than an intruder. Having a firearm just escalates that risk because it’s there as an option and rage blinds us from rational thinking as well as empathy. But you’re less likely to die via stabbing, blunt object and hand-to-hand combat than gunshot.
You don’t need a “reasonable” cause to own and purchase a handgun. You need a “good and substantial” reason to get a Permit to Carry (a handgun).
Handgun, to purchase you need a “, Handgun qualification license” , that came from 2013 Gun control bills, follower by a background check performed by the Maryland State Police as opposed to “long guns” only being subject to a NICS background check.

Handgun “transfers” are on Maryland State Police 77R form. You can download and look at it yourself.
There’s also a 7 day wait that came from a time when gun dealers used to mail the forms in and allow the MSP to perform the background check, before fax machines.

I tried to purchase a handgun when I was suicidal last year, but stopped when I read about what I needed to do before picking it up, so there was a reasonable mix up in that state of mind between the HQL and the carry permit. So I made a mistake on the permit part. But I stand by everything else.
