From Harford County Public Schools:
Harford Glen recently hosted the 7th Annual Environmental Scholarship and Green Awards event. Awards were presented to educators, students, committed volunteers, and local businesses who are dedicated to the support of Harford Glen and environmental education in Harford County Public Schools (HCPS).
This year’s Green Teachers of the Year were announced and celebrated for their dedication to consistently integrate environmental themes into their teaching. Steve Hillyer, science instructor at Havre De Grace High School, was named the Secondary Green Teacher of the Year.
“Mr. Hillyer inspires our Environmental Science students by planning and implementing relevant and engaging lessons,” said Jim Reynolds, principal of Havre De Grace High School. “In addition, he works closely with local government and community partners to provide additional environmental related experiences for our students.”
Melissa Stout, 3rd grade teacher at Magnolia Elementary, was named the Elementary Green Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Stout was described by her principal, Patty Mason, as “a leader in the Magnolia Elementary Green School process, who consistently promotes environmental stewardship not only within the classroom, but within her whole school.”
The 2016 Environmental Scholarship winners were also announced at the event. They were: Patrick Hertitier-Robbins, Aberdeen High School; Cassidy Titus, Bel Air High School; Daniel Wesdock, C. Milton Wright High School; Mason Boeren, Fallston High School; Catherine Butz, Havre De Grace High School; Megan Greene, North Harford High School; and Jarred Kinlein, Joppatowne High School.
