From the Aberdeen Police Department:
On Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at approximately 2:30 AM, officers responded to a report of a suicidal male subject, 22, who had slashed his wrists and wanted to commit “suicide by cop.”
Officers made contact with the emotionally disturbed person’s family in the unit block of Rigdon Rd. During that time the suicidal subject phoned police dispatch personally and provided his location at the North Deen Skate Park.
Officers responded and discovered the suicidal man, bleeding from both wrists and standing on an elevated skate ramp in the center of the park. The suicidal man was hiding his hands and refusing to obey police commands.
Officers tactically surrounded the subject and were able to deploy a less lethal weapon to temporarily incapacitate the subject, take him into police custody, and transport him after filing a petition for emergency evaluation.

Should have given him his wish.

Absolutely no reason for APD to post this as a press release. A.) This is not newsworthy, B.) let’s not glorify a suicide attempt and C.) Is APD that desperate for media attention that they need to prepare a press release for stuff that goes on everyday all over the county.

I have to disagree. I think it was both professional and prudent for the Aberdeen Police Department to transparently present the information. The incident occurred in a populated community on the east side of the city. Eleven at 2:30 AM the commotion had to draw a lot of people. Where you have people you have opinions, rumors, and Monday morning quarterbacks. They quickly disseminated the facts to head off those things. Secondly and most importantly liberal elements of the media have been recently attempting to brand police as vilians who attempt to terminate every police citizen interaction with a fatal outcome. It makes for an interesting story but is not even close to the real truth. The Aberdeen Police acted properly and utilized only enough force to eliminate the situation and the disturbed individual received the help he greatly needed. Great job APD!

Because a bus tracker app or fixing a culvert on a dirt trail is newsworthy….

Stop making everything about politics, thanks to the police for not using excess force in this case. But let us be real it those happen and quiet often.

@Word
Maybe you have not had your morning cup of Joe. I just commended the officers for their professionalism. Again transparency is the key. Nothing to hide hide nothing. Gives the liberal media no place to go.
Oh and by the way, try drinking it black…..makes you more alert

The term liberal media is redundant, media has always been one of the pillars of liberalism.

I also commend the officers but if the suspect was hiding his hands and refusing to obey commands it sounds like a extremely dangerous situation for the police. I wonder what everyone would be saying if the perp would have had a gun in his hidden hands and shot or killed a few police. Glad everything turned out ok but what will happen the next time?
