From Maryland State Police:
“Checkpoint Strikeforce”
A briefing will be held at the Route 152 park and ride at 10:30 pm, followed by a Sobriety Checkpoint on the ramp from north bound I-95 to Route 152 beginning at 11 pm on May 5, 2016.
Maryland State Police personnel from the JFK Highway, Bel Air, and North East Barracks, along with deputies from the Harford County Sherriff’s Office will conduct a sobriety checkpoint. The operation will be conducted with the five State and District of Columbia Campaign, “Checkpoint Strikeforce”. The goal is to reduce the number of drunk and drugged drivers on Harford County roadways.

I am no law enforcement genius, but wouldn’t it be more effective if it weren’t advertised ahead of time???
The Mad Punter says
Agreed! let it be a surprise

Talk about “Bwa, Ha, Ha!” That’s about the silliest thing I’ve heard of so far, today. HEY! Let’s all stand around in the middle of the median with flash lights and torches.
Tom says
It’s a legality issue.

Sadly on any given day at any given time there are drunk or impaired drivers on our roads. Sobriety check points, although conceptually a good idea, do not even come close to scratching the surface with regards to catching drunk or impaired drivers. Basically the purpose is to generate awareness to the problem. Hopefully to make people think and exercise good judgement. As a police supervisor I had to detail my officers to numerous speed enforcement details. Some officers chose to conceal their vehicles behind signs, bushes, etc to get violators. I tried to encourage my officers to sit in plain view and not hide. The overall result was people saw the police car and slowed down. This was not an attempt to gain revenue for the State but was intended to ultimately save lives. If a driver who was was not paying attention enough to see a marked police car shame on them. The same arguments can be made regarding sobriety check points. Drunk and impaired drivers unfortunately will always be out there whether you advertise the detail or not. Hopefully two things will be accomplished. That is to increase awareness regarding impaired driving and to catch one of the thousands of drunks on our roadways.

Very well said.

I made the same comment before, and a police officer friend of mine said they are required to advertise it so there’s no entrapment.

Your friend would be correct.

Harford County should hang a sign at RT152 & I95 that reads:
Now Entering Trooper White’s Traffic Enforcement Zone.

Thousands of drunk drivers, and or drivers on whatever gimmick, pills, pot, heroin, meth, whatever still don’t out number the amount of sober drivers negligently crashing. It starts with all the impatient bad habit driving.
Heck, just today sitting cars deep at a traffic light some asshole crosses double yellow and races up past us all sitting in the WRONG direction of travel for the lane to make the stupidass green turn arrow.
I was sitting in a parking lot and saw a compact car crunch into a pickup trucks trailer ball mount. The guy barely took a look and walked into the store he was going to – mean while later the pickup trucks operator came out, saw the incident, looked pissed, I heard profanity.
The guy got in his truck and just floored it, ripping off the entire front end of this dudes car. Fascia, front bumper, grille, the condensor and the coolant radiator even ripped out
It was the most hilarious thing I ever seen.

Once again the State Police keeping Harford county roads safe while sheriff Jeff is busy counting heroin overdoses..
So sad.

That’s weird, a little research shows that the Harford County Sheriff’s Office enforces more traffic law and locks up more drunks than the state police in this county. That’s because the state police can only do so much with the limited manpower they have (3-4 troopers) at any given moment. That’s probably why the Sheriff’s Office was able to lock up more drunks and conduct thousands more traffic stops. It’s not a competition but I’m just completely baffled as to why you think HCSO or Gahler don’t keep the roads safe here if HCSO conducts more traffic enforcement than MSP in Harford? Plus HCSO not only helps MSP for their DUI checkpoints, they also conduct their own! I’m starting to think you just personally don’t like Sheriff Gahler because your posts make absolutely no sense.

You officers are amazing, and I count my blessings everyday for you!

The biggest mistake we ever made in this country was to give our neighbor a gun and a badge and ask him to watch our home while we are away. When I returned that prick used the evil states law to evict me, now that scum lives there. Police were never needed in this country. They are nothing but a bunch of power hungry, beer drinking, bullies. They are the same people who pushed little kids around in high school. When they got out of school they went into the armed forces so they could kill. When they were done killing for the evil state, they became cops so they could continue to kill legally. These are our protectors….what a fucking joke you are.

Stop it silly guy. I think we all pretty much know your regular posting identity even though he has been on a hiatus for a while. Get a life sweetheart.

I’m 50 years old, and I’ve never experienced anything like the police you described. Nor has anyone else in my family, or any friends, and I’ve never heard any of my colleagues describe anything similar.. Perhaps it’s behavior and personality that draws the police into yours and your acquaintances presence.
