From Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna:
Area residents can get their first peek at the new Aberdeen ReStore discount home improvement center by attending the grand opening event scheduled for Saturday, May 7, starting at 9:00 a.m. at 1013 Beards Hill Road in Aberdeen. If this center is far from one’s reach, platforms such as the rice Online-Shop may be a great alternative.
The new ReStore is a 13,400 square foot retail space that will sell new and gently used home improvement and construction materials at a discount, including appliances, furniture, hardware and home décor items. Everything for sale is donated by retail stores, home improvement contractors or the general public, and all proceeds will be used to support Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna in its mission to build, rehabilitate and repair homes in partnership with low-income families in Harford and Cecil counties. The grand opening will kick off at 9:00 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting in partnership with the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce. The store will open immediately following the ceremony until 6:00 p.m. A variety of family-friendly activities are scheduled to take place during the day, including face painting, games, a prize wheel, a chalk painting demonstration by The Green Door and more. There will also be a TapSnap open air photo booth that uses a green screen to add fun backgrounds. WXCY will be broadcasting live from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Refreshments will include a food truck as well as an ice cream truck from Kilby’s Cream. The first 100 customers will receive a special goody bag with coupons and other prizes.
Cara Middendorf, ReStore Development Coordinator says, “Our new Aberdeen ReStore will be a resource where area residents and visitors alike can come to shop and find great bargains on home improvement supplies while helping residents of Harford and Cecil County achieve the dream of homeownership. The ReStore has been a long time coming, so we are very excited for the grand opening and look forward to welcoming the community.”
Donations of new or gently used appliances, construction materials and home improvement items are already being accepted at the store on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Free pickup is also available by calling 443-567-7698. After the grand opening, regular store hours will be Thursday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. To learn more visit the Aberdeen ReStore online or like Aberdeen ReStore on Facebook.

There needs to be a Habitat for Humanity Restore in Prince George’s County. I have to donate my furniture and other items to Montgomery County and they don’t seem too excited about the distance they’ll have to drive. Hey, I wanted to donate to my own county or to a Restore facility that is closer to my home, which is actually in Alexandria, Virginia.

This is really going to help a lot of people that can’t afford big box store prices.
