From SARC:
Men, women and children of all ages are invited to participate in SARC’s 8th annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes®: International Men’s March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence, taking place on Saturday, April 30, 2016 in downtown Bel Air, Maryland. Organizations around the world are hosting Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® events throughout April to mark Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Harford County Executive Barry Glassman, the Honorary Chair, said, “I am proud to be the honorary chair of this year’s Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® event to help the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Together with my Director of Administration Billy Boniface, I encourage all the men of Harford County to join us, and be the kind of guy who takes a stand.”
SARC’s Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® event begins at 9:30AM with onsite registration, shoe sizing, music, refreshments, and fun for the whole family. Kickoff announcements and fundraising awards will begin at 10:45AM. The walk steps off at 11AM sharp. The walking route leaves from the side of the Main Street Oyster House, heads down Main Street, turns onto Bond Street, proceeds to Churchville Rd, and then heads back to its conclusion alongside the Main Street Oyster House. There will be “after-parties” at both the Main Street Oyster House and MaGerks Pub immediately following the walk, with both restaurants donating a portion of their proceeds to SARC.
This event is a way to draw attention to the fact that one in two women and one in five men experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetimes. SARC has a multi-tiered goal with this event: to raise awareness about the problem, to provide action steps to combat the problem and to raise funds to provide resources to the problem’s victims in Harford County. SARC’s financial goal is to raise $75,000 through registrations, sponsorships, restaurant fundraisers and peer-to-peer fundraising. To register to walk or to sponsor a walker, visit Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® on SARC’s website (www.sarc-maryland.org), text WalkAMile to #71777, or email aalthouse@sarc-maryland.org.
“SARC looks forward to partnering with community members to shift attitudes and break stereotypes…one step at a time. On April 30th we will all come together to be a part of the solution, to offer our support to survivors and to continue on the journey toward a society where violence is not tolerated” said Luisa Caiazzo, CEO of SARC.

Is it really necessary to force men to basically walk around in drag as a show if support to non violence against women? Isn’t just walking enough? Seems like a manipulative silly gimick with a sketchy transgender theme.
Hunter says
Really….do you have to throw the LGBT into a charity event meant to help abused women, Yes, the high heels may be a gimmick, but it provides a platform to reach out to people with a heart to help those who have been a victim. Take a look at the bigger picture and reach into your wallet and help those in need.
The Money Tree says
Want to explain to me what heels have to do with rape anyway? It’s a stupid transgender gimmick – a stunt. So if white people March in support of black lives matter they should wear giant afro wigs and black face?
Chuck says
Unnecessary and illogical conflation of domestic violence (which also happens to men btw), transgender concerns, and women’s apparel.
