From the Office of the State Fire Marshal:
Deputy State Fire Marshals have charged a twelve year-old male with arson charges stemming from two different fires which engulfed two sheds that occurred last night at 5:30 PM located on East Spring Meadow Court.
Investigators were requested by firefighters after extinguishing two sheds to the rear of 1343 and 1345 East Spring Meadow Court. While Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company firefighters were extinguishing the shed fires, they became aware of a brush fire in the area of Topview Drive and Horseshoe Lane. Firefighters along with Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the brush fires. Witnesses advised deputies they observed four male juveniles running from the area and those juveniles were later identified.
Deputy State Fire Marshals determined the shed fires were an intentional act and contact was made with the juveniles who identified the person responsible. With assistance of Harford County Sheriff’s Office, contact was made with the responsible juvenile and it was determined he ignited two brush fires one of which quickly spread and ignited the two sheds. The total approximate loss for the fencing, sheds and their contents is estimated to be $15,000.00
The juvenile has been charged with 2nd Degree Arson, 1st Degree Malicious Burning and Malicious Destruction of Property. The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents and will be referred to Department of Juvenile Services.
