From the Harford County Public Library:
Dr. William Allen has been appointed to the Harford County Public Library board of trustees. His appointment began at the beginning of March and will expire at the end of June 2018. Dr. Allen is filling a vacancy created when a trustee relocated out of state.
Dr. Allen, a Havre de Grace resident, is an active community member. He is associate pastor at First Baptist Church in Havre de Grace; member of the board of directors for University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health and The Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation; and a member of the Harford County Regional Water & Sewer Authority Advisory Committee.
“We are so fortunate to have Dr. Allen as part of Harford County Public Library’s board of trustees,” said Mary Hastler, CEO of the library. “His knowledge and scholarship will bring an added dimension to the work our board does in setting policy and advising in the budget process.”
Dr. Allen is a Miller Senior Fellow in America’s Founding Principles and History and the Veritas Fund Senior Fellow, Matthew J. Ryan Center for the Study of Free Institutions and the Public Good, at Villanova University.
In addition, Dr. Allen is emeritus dean at James Madison College and emeritus professor of political philosophy at Michigan State University.
Dr. Allen has received numerous honors and awards including the Salvatori Prize Laureate; Fulbright Distinguished Chair, People’s Republic of China; Fulbright Advanced Teaching Fellow (France); and Booker T. Washington Legacy Award, Heartland Institute.
Dr. Allen is widely published. His most recent books include “Re-Thinking Uncle Tom: The Political Philosophy of H. B. Stowe”; “George Washington: America’s First Progressive”; and “The Personal and the Political: Three Fables by Montesquieu.”
He holds a doctorate and master’s degree from Claremont Graduate School and a bachelor’s from Pepperdine College.
