From Harford Community College:
Harford Community College middle school and high school teams both took first place in the technical challenge at the Destination ImagiNation Regional Tournament that was held on March 5. The technical challenge required the teams to successfully build a vehicle with two propulsion systems and two separate movement methods. Laura Drake of the Office of Academic Affairs is the manager for the HCC high school team and served as co-director of the tournament. Leah Carter, a volunteer for the HCC DI program, is the team manager for the College’s middle school team.
Harford Community College hosted the event with more than 400 students and their families visiting the campus for the tournament. Students from kindergarten through high school in Cecil and Harford Counties competed in their choice of one of five different challenges from improv and theater arts to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The day was filled with excitement and energy as everyone prepared to showcase all the months of hard work.
Teams that finished in the top three at the regional level competition are now moving forward to compete at the state level on Saturday, April 9, at UMBC. The winners of the state competition will go on to the global competition at the University of Tennessee in May.
Marcia Cole, East Central Regional Director says
Just a clarification: The East Central Regional Tournament advanced the top two elementary, top three middle, and top four high school teams to the State Tournament.
