The Annual ATHENA Award and Women’s Leadership Breakfast will be held Friday, March 4, from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m. at the Richlin Ballroom, 1700 Van Bibber Road in Edgewood. This year marks the 15th anniversary of Harford Community College organizing the ATHENA Award/breakfast.
Louise Phipps Senft, attorney, author, mediator and founder of Baltimore Mediation, will be the keynote speaker.
The ATHENA Award is presented to an exemplary leader who has achieved excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession; served the community to improve the quality of life for others; and, most importantly, actively assisted women to achieve their full leadership potential.
The 2016 finalists are: Claudine Adams, president and CEO, Bravura Information Technology; Jesse Bane, town administrator, Town of Bel Air; Paige Boyle, director of marketing and customer relations, Boyle Buick GMC; Susan Manning Bresuciak, business development specialist, Freedom Federal Credit Union; Anita A. Brightman, founder and CEO, A. Bright Idea Advertising and Public Relations; Carolyn Evans, partner, Sengstacke and Evans, LLC; Kimberly Nikitas, principal research scientist, Battelle; and Amy Woolf, coordinator – Global Studies and International Baccalaureate Magnet Program, Edgewood High School.
Last year’s recipient of the ATHENA Award was Stephanie Hau, president/CEO of Chesapeake Environmental Management.
The ATHENA Award is part of ATHENA International, a nonprofit that seeks to support, develop and honor women leaders. The program inspires women to reach their full potential and strives to create balance in leadership worldwide. Since its founding in 1982, the award has been presented in more than 500 communities in eight countries.
The ATHENA Award presentation and Women’s Leadership Breakfast are organized by the Harford Community College Foundation. The Foundation is one of only three organizations in Maryland to host this event each year.
Proceeds from this year’s Women’s Leadership Breakfast will fund the new ATHENA Leadership Scholarship. The scholarship, valued at $1,000, will be awarded annually starting in the next academic year. First preference will be given to a female adult returning to college who exemplifies professionalism and commitment to the community. The recipient must be a Harford County resident, enrolled at least half time (six-plus credits) with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Two new additions are part of this year’s ATHENA breakfast celebration.
The first is a partnership with the Books in Hand Program, sponsored by Greater Excellence in Education Foundation (GEEF). The program sends home backpacks of age- and reading-level appropriate books with elementary students over the summer to improve their reading skills. A special breakfast ticket option includes a donation to support the Books in Hand Program.

You have got to be kidding me! Is this the same Bane that neglected domestic violence victims? Fired a femaie officer unfairly and it took the court to set him straight? Saying Bane is good for the interests of women is like saying child molestors make good babysitters!
