From the Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center:
From February 18 – 29, 2016 SARC (Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center) and the City of Havre de Grace are joining forces to light Havre de Grace orange in an effort to promote healthy relationships and to raise awareness about the prevalence of dating abuse. This partnership will draw attention to the month of February which is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. One in three teens in the U.S. experiences dating violence. Everyone deserves a healthy, safe and respectful relationship.
“The lights will glow orange for 11 days,” stated Eileen Phelps, Development Director at SARC. “We hope this will cause visitors and residents of Havre de Grace to question, “Why orange?” and check out the City’s website and ours to learn more about Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and the resources SARC has available to teach about healthy versus unhealthy relationships.”
With this partnership, SARC hopes to draw attention to its community outreach program which includes a healthy relationships presentation. This presentation educates people all ages about healthy relationships and the importance of awareness and prevention. Anyone interested in scheduling a presentation for your school, church or workplace, please contact SARC’s development office at 410-836-8431.
