From the Harford County Public Library:
HAPPINESS IS A GOOD BOOK… NATURALLY
Celebrate the official start of winter at Harford County Public Library by signing up for Winter Reading beginning on December 21st. This year’s theme, Happiness is a Good Book… Naturally is brought to you by a Peanuts favorite – Snoopy!
Winter Reading encourages high school teens and adults to escape the cold by celebrating the joy of reading with their favorite books. Participants can register at any branch or online at HCPLonline.org. Adults who read or listen to at least five books and teens who read or listen to at least three books can return their completed book list between December 28th and March 4th to receive a commemorative mug featuring Snoopy! Giveaways are while supplies last. Winter Reading 2016 is supported by Advanced Eye Care; Shaffer, McLauchlin & Stover, LLC Attorneys at Law; the Friends of Harford County Public Library and the Harford County Public Library Foundation.
Harford County Public Library is also pleased to host Puppy Tales, an early literacy program focused on children ages birth-5 years. Now in its third year, Puppy Tales highlights the importance of early literacy and encourages participation in daily activities that strengthen pre-reading skills. Parents and caregivers can register their children for Puppy Tales at any Library branch or online starting December 21st. Upon registering they can receive an activity log with 20 simple but fun learning activities based on the five early literacy practices – talking, singing, reading, writing and playing! Once 12 of the 20 activities are complete, participants can return the activity log and children will receive a certificate and a special completion prize.
And starting on January 29th, Snoopy and the whole Peanuts gang will be at the Library in the exhibition Peanuts…Naturally. Organized by the Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California, this display takes a light-hearted look at Mr. Schulz’s exploration of the natural world through Peanuts comic strips, videos, objects and interactive stations. The main portion of Peanuts…Naturally takes place at the Bel Air Library. A smaller part of the exhibition, titled Charlie Brown and the EPA, will be on display at the Abingdon Library during the same period. Both are open during regular Library hours.
