From the Aberdeen Police Department:
The second annual “Shop with a Cop” was held today in Aberdeen. The Aberdeen Police Department paired with the American Legion Riders of the Bernard L. Tobin Post 128 for a fun day of shopping.
The event was a success again this year with seventeen children participating. An officer escorted them to the store where they helped them choose appropriate gifts for themselves and their family members. Purchases were made with Wal-Mart gift cards provided by donations and fundraisers. The children then ate lunch at the American Legion where they had help wrapping their gifts. There was even a surprise visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. At the end of the day each of the eight families was sent home with groceries for a holiday meal including a frozen turkey.
The Aberdeen Police Department feels the “Shop with a Cop” program helps to foster a positive relationship between the youth in Aberdeen, their families and our police officers. Our officers enjoyed spending time with the children and hope they all have a wonderful holiday season.
