Hey, look a video you can actually see. Two thumbs up to that 7-11 for upgrading their cameras. Now, if only the other businesses would do the same…..

Where is the camera that point directly at the customer from the clerks point of view?
Man, convenience stores suck at spending money on decent equipment. I got better stuff on my house.

I’m starting to think some businesses don’t really want to catch the thieves. It is probably easier to just eat the loss or recoup insurance. If the crook is caught, they’d have to prosecute (which will take someone’s time and money), and then what? What are the odds that the crook would still have enough money to give it back to them. Even worse, what if they lose their case and the “crook” sues them? It may be more cost effective to let them get away with a handful of (hopefully small) bills.
The lousy resolution cameras give a good enough picture to keep the employees in line (you already know what they look like), and the business can still claim that the store is under surveillance, for whatever insurance, public safety, or deterrent value that may have.
I hope I’m wrong, and I hate the idea of letting criminals get away…but it seems to make sense.

Right, well big box stores have a preset percentage of the amount of inventory loss. Theft, damage, etc.
Its basically nice to know you are paying for products at a rate the store can still make money included in that price so people can steal.

Try owning and operating a business and you can spend all you want on the latest greatest equipment that has nothing to do with your actual business. The costs incurred because of criminals is outrageous. I don’t get all these comments blaming the store owners.

I don’t know if I was trying to blame the store owners. I was just kind of pondering…As was alluded to in an earlier comment, on here we very often see security footage that is of such abysmal quality it would seem impossible to identify the suspect. For example:

My cellphone could get better resolution, and it’s an old timey one that folds in half and has buttons on it. I (and I think other dagger readers) have been trying to wrap my head around how, in the 21st century there could be any excuse for such low quality footage. It’s not for lack of availability of equipment. If you ever want to see a series of crystal clear HD pics of a moving object, just be a little behind a yellow light in Bel Air and check your mail in a week or so. 😉
