Historic Concord Point Lighthouse to be Illuminated in Pink this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Harford County Executive Barry Glassman, in cooperation with Havre de Grace Mayor William T. Martin and the Friends of the Concord Point Lighthouse, will again illuminate the historic Concord Point Lighthouse in the color pink for the month of October to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The 6th annual ceremonial lighting will take place on Friday, October 2 at 6:00 p.m., weather permitting, at the lighthouse which is located at the corner of Concord and Lafayette Streets in Havre de Grace.

“Almost everyone knows someone who has been impacted by breast cancer,” said County Executive Glassman. “We want to support those who are fighting this serious disease, and raise awareness to promote early detection, which can greatly improve outcomes.”

This year, an estimated 4,730 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in Maryland alone, and 810 women are expected to die from the disease. Breast cancer screenings can be quick and easy, and generally include two relatively simple procedures – a clinical breast exam and a mammogram. Havre de Grace Goes Pink to Support Cancer Awareness kicking off with First Fridays October 2

The City of Havre de Grace in partnership with Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation would like to invite you to experience “Paint the Town Pink” sponsored by Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union (APGFCU) Havre de Grace Branch.

Incorporating First Friday vendors, Havre de Grace will feature many events and specials throughout our business district that will give back to the Kaufman Cancer Center and the LifeNet Program. To bring awareness to the campaign you will find the City lit up in pink; community partner Vulcan Materials creates an entrance to the City by positioning a 13,000 gallon CAT water truck with a black body and pink tank featuring the “Paint the Town Pink” logo. The granite quarry situated just to the south of I-95 Bridge over the Susquehanna River will also have lights in shades of pink that may be seen by the traveler crossing the John F Kennedy Memorial Highway.

The kickoff of this month’s events will begin at the Concord Point Lighthouse, October 2rd at 6 pm. Join Harford County and the City of Havre de Grace in the lighting of the Lighthouse Pink, celebrating cancer survivors, to bring the importance and awareness to early detection.

Then continue to First Fridays in the designated Main Street District for food, music and family fun. Laurrapin Grill will feature café seating with the Wallis & Co. Enjoy an outdoor oyster bar and café seating at Coakleys and inside Dj Backtraxx. Rodger’s Tavern offers barbeque and will doing Pool Tournament to benefit the Kaufman Cancer Foundation. Joseph’s Department Store will feature an all ladies band, Gina De Simone and the Moaners and take time to visit the store for various specials.
