Harford County State’s Attorney Joseph Cassilly announced a guilty plea in the murder case of Ivan Bustamante. On 18 September 2015, Ivan Bustamante entered a plea of guilty but not criminally responsible to one count of 1st Degree Murder for the murder of Esmerelda Hernandez, 15, of Edgewood, MD.
On November 8, 2014 at 6:24 pm, Ivan Bustamante entered 110 Reider Ct., Apt. C in Edgewood with two knives. He proceeded to repeatedly stab Maria Hernandez, 39, and her two daughters, Esmerelda and Lizbeth. All three were seriously injured, with Maria and Lizbeth being transported to Shock Trauma, and Esmerelda succumbing to her injuries.
The case was heard by Judge Angela M. Eaves who sentenced the defendant to the custody of the Division of Health and Mental Hygiene, The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Donald F. Walter, Jr. and Mary L. Denholm.
