From the New Harford Democratic Club:
Delegate Steven Lafferty, Chair of the Baltimore County Delegation, will be the main speaker at the September 2, 2015 meeting of the New Harford Democratic Club, at the Aberdeen Holiday Inn Express. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
The 2016 legislative session in Annapolis next year could be a tumultuous affair, what with a potential budget battle looming and the early primaries starting as the session ends.
Delegate Steven Lafferty will be in the thick of it as Deputy Majority Whip of the Democratic caucus. He knows the players and the issues that will be dealt with as the Democratic leadership faces off with Republican Governor Larry Hogan.
Hogan will have a year of governing under his belt when the session begins in January and his actions over this past eight months indicate it will not be smooth sailing with a legislature that has such a strong Democratic majority.
The budget always takes center stage and Hogan has made it clear he wants to cut state spending. How he does that and still provide the services most Marylanders have made clear they want is a big question.
Delegate Lafferty will be in the middle of the battle and will be in a position to give Harford County voters an insight on transportation funding and the environment. In addition to his leadership position, he is also a member of the Environment and Transportation Committee.
The upcoming session should be an exciting time right in the middle of the presidential campaign and significant races in Maryland for U.S. Senate and the House of Delegates. Delegate Lafferty will provide a heads up.
Delegate Lafferty was first elected the House of Delegates in 2006 and has been Deputy Majority Whip since 2014. He is a member of the Environment and Transportation Committee, and Chair of the Land Use and Ethics Subcommittee, and is a member of the Joint Committee of the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Critical Areas. He also serves as Deputy Director in the Department of Planning and Zoning for Howard County.
