From the Aberdeen Police Department:
All members of the Aberdeen Police Department, in the near future, will be issued Tactical Riot Gear as part of their standard issued equipment. The purchase of forty (40) Tactical Riot Gear kits demonstrates the commitment of the City of Aberdeen to properly equip its police officers with personal body protection equipment, in the event of civil unrest.
Recently, the Aberdeen Police Department responded to events in Baltimore City as part of a unified law enforcement response to civil unrest and violence. During that deployment Aberdeen Police Officers relied on equipment provided by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office for personal protection. It became immediately apparent to Aberdeen Police Command Staff that individually issued crowd control equipment was needed to enhance the safety of all of its members, and to ensure a proper response to incidents that would require the need for such equipment in the future.
Officers of the Aberdeen Police Department have received training in crowd control response, and the procurement of this equipment will augment any police response in the event of civil unrest.

Glad to hear the Aberdeen police officers are getting this gear! The job is dangerous enough on a daily basis as it is. No need to further jeopardize officer safety due to a lack of protective gear of all things. I would hate to hear about an officer getting hurt or killed because of something that could have easily been prevented with the proper equipment. Sadly, these are trying times. It’s better to be safe than sorry! Keep up the great work Boys and Girls In Blue and stay safe!

Three questions for you. Are you expecting a riot? Don’t you think the money could’ve been spent on body cameras instead? I thought their uniforms were gray?
Devil Dog says
Honestly (and unfortunately), nothing surprises me anymore as far as riots, violent protesting, and volatile situations in general that require the police to respond. Given the direction things seems to be going with the increased violence in the nation, I think it was money well spent. But…I think body cameras would be fantastic as well! In the grand scheme of things, I think body cameras would have been the better option, but I’m unfamiliar with what the cost would be for them. I’m guessing maybe it wasn’t in the budget or perhaps they’re still looking into them for the future? I sincerely hope they do. I believe their uniforms are actually gray, but I think the term “Boys In Blue” is all-encompassing just like the “Thin Blue Line” term. For the sake of being thorough I’ll say: Keep up the great work Law Enforcement Officers!

It would appear that all Harford County police agencies are getting ready for “all hands on deck” if one or more of the six officers charged in Baltimore has their trial moved to Harford County.

I bet the officers are hitting their knees every night praying for Garrett County.

Did they get approval from the “Black Lives Matter” movement?
Devil Dog says
No, they got it from the “All Lives Matter Whether You’re Black, White, Male, Female, Police Officer, or Civilian” movement just like they always have.
Yup says
But that’s racist, dontcha know?!?! To the #BLM crowd, black lives are the only lives that matter, and don’t you dare contend otherwise.

So sad…and so part of the problem and not the solution. All lives matter!! How would you have me tell my biracial, adult. son that his white mother’s life doesn’t matter?
really says
riot gear costs money
conceal carry costs nothing
different approach, equal results

Tell that to the Maryland General Assembly. That’s who wants to make sure that us peasants don’t have the means to adequately protect ourselves.

Whenever I show homes in certain areas of the county, I bring protection…I should wear a vest as well!
