From Ripken Baseball:
With their backs to the wall at the bottom of their division, Team Harford (1-2) faced off against Team Ohio Valley (1-2) at Cal, Sr.’s Yard in Day 5 of pool play. Harford County bats caught fire early scoring off Parker Smith’s RBI double and Player of the Game Gaetano Gerace’s two run triple to right field in the first inning. Ohio Valley was able to tack on two runs off Harford County field errors in the third inning to close the deficit to one run.
Austin Carr’s RBI would extend Harford County’s lead 5-3 at the bottom of the fourth inning, and Ohio Valley was unable to match Harford County down to the stretch. Player of the Game Gaetano Grace went three innings and recorded eight first pitch strikes. After Tristan Schoendienst took the mound in the fourth he held Harford County’s defense allowing no runs and recording six first pitch strikes in his two innings.
“It was a big boost, the first two outings weren’t really what we looked like,” said head coach Chris Skandalis. “Yesterday we went back to the drawing board and got a good workout and a talk in to get their heads back on right because we know we can perform that way. They all came out and did it collectively.”
Harford County looks to finish pool play with a win against Midwest Plains Wednesday 5:30 p.m. at Cal, Sr.’s Yard. Ohio Valley hopes to bounce back against undefeated Middle Atlantic Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Cal, Sr.’s Yard.
