From Ripken Baseball:
Ripken Baseball today announced the new schedule for the 16th annual Cal Ripken World Series (CRWS), which will now take place July 24 – August 1 at The Ripken Experience Aberdeen Powered by Under Armour complex in Aberdeen, Maryland. Traditionally taking place in mid-August, the CRWS has moved its dates forward to late July to highlight the international celebration in the sports realm.
“We are excited that the annual Cal Ripken World Series is rapidly approaching,” said MLB Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. “We have made some decisions to better position the World Series for the future. We have permanently moved the dates forward and are excited by the advantages this will provide. Having the ability to partner with MLB.com and stream the games across the globe is a great advantage. We have also been actively exploring ways to expand our television coverage and while we were unable to do that this year it remains a priority. Our World Series will continue to be a celebration of the best youth baseball in the world with tremendous community support and we look forward to seeing everyone in Aberdeen this month.”
New to this year’s tournament, fans around the world will have the opportunity to watch free live streams of the championship games on MLB.com. The championship games on July 31 and August 1 will also include live commentary from MLB veteran and Emmy Award nominated sports broadcaster Bill Ripken. Additionally, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred will be in attendance on Thursday, July 30 for a U.S. semifinals matchup.
The CRWS is where the world comes to play, The Ripken Way, and is the culminating tournament of the elite baseball talent in the Babe Ruth League’s 12u Cal Ripken Division. The World Series unites the 10 best teams from across the United States and eight international teams from across the globe.
The Cal Ripken World Series officially begins on Friday, July 24 with a Skills Challenge and Home Run Derby at Cal, Sr.’s Yard. Later that evening, World Series host team Harford County will take on Middle Atlantic at 8:00 p.m. to cap off the Opening Night festivities. All tournament games are FREE to the public. Free tickets are available online at www.ripkenbaseball.com/world_series.
Games will be played on the innovative fields at The Ripken Experience Aberdeen Powered by Under Armour complex, including the one-of-a-kind Cal, Sr.’s Yard, a two-thirds replica of Camden Yards. Pool play takes place from July 25 – July 29 with games played from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. First Lady of Maryland Yumi Hogan is scheduled to meet with Team Korea and throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Cal, Sr.’s Yard on July 25.

I personally think you guys up there should host an additional event that I would actually be interested in. Take the winner of the Cal Ripken World Series and match them up against the winner of the Little League World Series in a three day, three game series to determine an undisputed champion. Whether or not anyone else thinks its a good idea, just think of the revenue it would generate……

It’s all about the money. NOT the money paid out, but the money Good Ole Cal can get. He never does anything without getting paid. I’m sure people just love a guy who goes to work every day of his career. My bad….that’s called a real iron man.

Why wasn’t the real reason for the date change told. It was changed because they supposedly struck up a deal with Fox Sports to televise the series. Guess what! After making families change vacations plans and other things nothing will be televised. It was done to make more money. This tme it backfired

I agree Cal does nothing unless it involves him making money. People are starting to wake up and see he is a greedy man. I lost respect along time ago
