From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
Harford County Sheriff’s Office detectives have charged a person in relation to an overnight homicide in Edgewood.
At approximately 10:50 p.m., Harford County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the Crime Suppression Unit and K-9 Unit were conducting a traffic stop in the 1800 block of Brookside Drive when they heard multiple gunshots nearby. Deputies immediately responded to the area of Brookside Drive and Grempler Way to investigate. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult male, identified as Darius Eizayah Andrew Preston, 21, lying on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of Grempler Way suffering from a gunshot wound. First aid was rendered by deputies on the scene. EMS personnel transported the victim to the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Patrol deputies from the Southern Precinct, canvased the area and located a suspect running from the scene, in the area of Grempler Way. He was quickly taken into custody, without incident. Detectives from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and members of the Forensic Services Unit responded to the scene to assume the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Marvin Jahvon Smith, 26, of the 400 block of Burnley Court in Edgewood has been charged with the homicide and several gun related charges. Smith was taken to the Harford County Detention Center where he was processed and is currently being held without bail. He was just confused. Father’s Day is coming up and everyone knows that’s the most confusing day in Baltimore City.

26 years old. A prior for carjacking and handgun possession. What is this hoodrat doing on the street killing some one? Makes me sick to the stomach. Baltimore City, a 16 year old girl raped, strangled, and had her genital area set on fire, and her house burned down by at least 3 members of the Bloods looking to accelerate their statuses. Almost 200 murders in Baltimore City. Most of the victims and suspects are black. When is the black community going to accept some of the responsibilty and actively address the problem? A large portion of Baltimore was burned during the recent riots. Millions of dollars of damage and what happens? Elijah Cummings commends the people responsible for expressing their concerns through demonstration. The mayor of the city tells her police commanders to give the rioters space to do their damages. This is insanity and needs to stop.

I don’t understand how this could have happened? I mean, clearly there are HIGHLY restrictive Maryland laws against carrying a handgun, let alone shooting someone with said handgun. Why did this upstanding, law-abiding citizen do this? I mean, I don’t carry my handgun on my person, so why did he? Doesn’t everyone obey the law? I think we need more laws to curb the behavior of people that don’t obey the law. I’m sure that will work.
Can we bulldoze Grempler Way already.
Poor guy didn’t have a adult male role model. Maybe he’ll find religion during the 6 months he’s likely to spend in jail. All of his family say’s he’s a good boy, just a little misunderstood. He couldn’t be guilty because it’s against the law in Md to carry a gun.Didn’t he read the “gun free zone” signs all around?
If only the MSP hadn’t given him a permit to carry a gun, this whole situation would not have happened!

He was running for help, had had the handgun for his own safety because he really just wanted to be a Police Officer, and was chasing a suspect when the cops showed up and tackled him…
THESE are the types of idiots that need to be made an example of, forget the HCDC – put his behind down in SuperMax or out in another State. No visitation from “friends” or “family”, make it a true punishment in a 6×9 with a window the size of a cigarette box.
