When was the last time you left a movie theater feeling genuinely inspired? When was the last time you saw a movie which endorsed a better tomorrow without including a platitudinous caveat? When was the last time a movie didn’t make you regret letting your guard down, regret believing that happy endings are possible without the conquest of a third party, regret looking toward the future with a sense of wonder instead of dread?
When was the last time a movie’s call to action made you actually want to do something? When was the last time it made you feel like you could do something? When was the last time you were encouraged about solving society’s biggest problems; felt like your hard work is building toward something greater; felt as though your efforts to secure a brighter future truly mattered? When was the last time you didn’t feel silly for wondering how we could improve the world together?
When was the last time you saw a movie that was fearlessly optimistic? When was the last time you weren’t afraid to be an optimist? When was the last time that the part of you that so desperately wants to hope again was fed with uninhibited imagination? When was the last time you weren’t afraid to ignore probabilities and believe in the supposedly impossible? When was the last time you aspired to affect real change?
When was the last time you asked yourself the two questions that mark the beginning of every great era in history: “Why” and “What if”? When was the last time you took action with the answers? When was the last time you didn’t let the daily news scare you or coerce you into hating something? When was the last time you did more for a cause than click “Like”? When was the last time you spent more time examining your political opinions than venting about how HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is so different from the books? When was the last time you put your money where your mouth is?
When was the last time you can remember it being okay to be an idealist? When was the last time you could more easily give in to naiveté than pessimism? When was the last time you envied the imagination of a child? When was the last time you refused to link hopefulness with immaturity? When was the last time you were swept away by your romanticism for a personal interest? When was the last time you braved the limitations of the pragmatic and “realistic”?
When was the last time a movie made you ask yourself all of these questions? When was the last time you saw a movie that openly trusted you to be the best that you could be?
When was the last time you helped build Tomorrowland?
