From Harford County government:
Harford County Executive Barry Glassman today signed legislation enacting the county budget for the fiscal year 2016, after it was unanimously approved on Tuesday by the County Council. County Executive Glassman thanked council members for their support and issued the following statement:
“I am encouraged that the County Council shares my vision for making Harford County stronger. By operating more efficiently and by reducing our debt, we are now able to fund long overdue investments in our valued public safety, education and government employees, without raising taxes.”

Zero dollars for Havre de Grace High School. Glad the New Harford County Executive is looking at the big picture.
irene says
It is not the County Executive that is making these decisions. lol – most people that voted for him have no idea what is actually going on in the county at present time.
Dumb says
There should be 0 new schools built in this economic climate. Right now the school system and county fail to fund teacher salaries at a competitive level to neighboring counties what good are new buildings with teachers who are underpaid. On top of that the entire school budget for technology, 250k. That is roughly 5k per school. Good luck administering new testing on that type of budget!
LOL says
The teacher foamers love to just make it a constant point about pay.
No one else does that but the butt smellers. What other county employees come on here about pay?
Easy says
Well, don’t you think the county has made it very easy for them to do so? I mean, they ARE now among the lowest paid in the state. So in your opinion it’s perfectly fine for HCPS teachers to be among the lowest paid in the state, but if they complain about it THEY are the ones that are in the wrong???
George says
I don’t think the County forces people to work for them. They are free to work anywhere they want.
What does this have to do with teachers? Hundred and hundreds of county employees haven’t gotten raises either, go troll your teacher drivel on the HCPS Facebook page.
I doubt they are the lowest paid in the state.
Please, come back and “tell me how it is” I really care, I promise to get real butthurt.
Uh-huh says
Teachers are free to work elsewhere. They are also free to try to improve the conditions of their employment with their current employer, just like everyone else. And when they are among the lowest paid in the state (believe it or not), they certainly have cause to voice their concern.
Ever notice how someone else’s opinion and freedom to express it is ony “drivel” when you don’t like what they have to say?
I can tell you really do care. Otherwise you wouldn’t have posted a comment.
George says
E-psyjologist? I posted because I really care to laugh.
George says
E-psychologist, that is. LOL
And you’re right, again, I do care. I want to be butt hurt.
SMH says
AND it appears the teachers are going to get a raise and COLA this year….what is the rest of the county workers getting…. A one time $1000 maybe if we are lucky
Cdev says
Mean while our neighbors are giving a cola 233% larger and a step. More teachers will leave. They call HCPS their farm system!
Kevin says
HCPS is funding that step increase and cola (beyond the whooping $500/employee Glassman is giving them) out of their existing budget. I know a chunk of it is from HCPS negotiating lower health insurance premiums, but I’m not sure where they go the rest of it from. Wasn’t extra money from the county, though.
Knows says
Your post sounds ungrateful, sarcasm noted at “whooping $500.”
To me, it sounds as if these people will never be happy no matter how much money they get.
Cant blame them, all the failed “social programs,” lots more students using drugs, and “hardcore” drugs like heroin. Crappy school administrators who somehow weezled their way into the school system after eating mushrooms and smoking weed in their early life (true story, know a few).
What else? Getting transferred to Route 40 corridor, no one wants to go there.
Try them says
You think they won’t be happy no matter how much they get? TRY THEM. Give them all back the step increases they’ve lost. Or match their payscale to that of Baltimore County, or Cecil County. I bet they would be VERY happy with that.
Seems to me that a lot of people on here are ONLY happy when the teachers get NOTHING.
Irene says
The county employees also have gotten “nothing” – they have also lost their payscale steps for about 6 years and have been shafted worse than teachers. So, why is it that it is always the teachers that seem to think they are the only ones that have been suffering under county administrations. I find it very sad how ridiculous some teaches behave, when most of county employees have gotten nothing also and their expenses etc. also are increasing on a constant basis. Stop with all the BS already. You teachers are not the only ones that have been suffering with all the overspending and all the spending in the wrong areas that the county has been doing now for many, many years and it is still an ongoing thing. It has not changed under the new administration. There is constant moving and remodeling going on because departments and divisions are being moved all over the place, without any kind of regard to anyone. It is NOT saving money, it is spending money. HC has truly become a very sad place and the general populations does not care and never will, because all they care about is that their property taxes do not get increased. They still want all the services and demand better service day after day, but seem to think that it gets paid with cheese. And they put down county employees as though they were taking tax payer’s money for doing nothing. How totally ridiculous is all of this thinking. It’s basically insane.
George says
I doubt teachers are suffering that bad, a lot of them look like they eat really well.

Kevin says
“Whooping $500” is appropriate phrasing when they (along with every other county employee) are $1000’s/year behind what they should be making according to the payscale that the County Exec and Council approved and agreed to fund. Every county employee except for HCPS and HCSO employees are getting $1000 raises from Glassman. HCPS and HCSO are only getting $500 and were “encouraged” to match that $500 from within the existing budget (and as far as I know, both have done so.)
Teachers have gotten 2 steps (counting this coming one) over the past 7 years because a couple years ago HCPS eliminated 67 teaching positions (and some of those were teachers getting pink slipped, not just from retiring teachers who weren’t replaced) and then this coming year where the board evidently made some efficiency changes to find the money to pay for the step.
Every other county employee, including deputies, has gotten nothing except a one time “bonus” that only half was ever paid (the county got that money from taxes on a local lottery winner’s winnings) and a 4% raise several years that was more than offset by increased benefit costs and taxes.
SMH says
Another sad fact is that county employees mostly likely wont get the $1000 in one check…meaning it will be broken down in 26 pays which equals to about …$38 per paycheck increase. That just might push people into a new tax bracket, meaning more money will be taken out and likely means we will actually bring home less… .
There is many reasons people don’t leave jobs during bad financial times….. still doesn’t mean its fair…
clown control says
They don’t get a raise bozo. I get a 7% raise for my productivity rating. They get a Cost of Living Adjustment of 1% plus a 1/2% for agreeing to a healthcare change. They still don’t get paid according to the pay schedule. Get it right before you mouth off.
LOL says
My whole thing is, if the pay sucks so bad, why stay? Self ownage? Smelling a butt? Wait, what?
Some leave, some get fired but they never have an extreme shortage of teachers. I guess teachers getting low pay from somewhere else come here? Its like a never ending cycle.
Deez says
Butt sniffer, real original! All joking aside I’ve got a nice onion bag you can sniff, while you’re puffing on my magic dragon. Teacher hating donkey

And what do we get when a season teacher leaves, some one fresh out of college, no experience, and about the same age as some of the career students in the system. And some parent have the nerve to sue the school for thier failure as a parent. At
19 years of age, if you are not in college, trade school or the military, your should have a job or out on your own. SSI check pays a bill.
