From the Aberdeen Police Department:
From the Harford County Municipal FOP, Lodge #128
It is with great sadness that our lodge learned of the unexpected passing of fellow brother and Aberdeen Police Department Sergeant Christopher Dubiel on Monday, May 18, 2015.
Brother Dubiel was a devoted husband who was excited to be a father with his wife and their expected daughter, Hailey. Chris was respected by his peers and was a leader in the police department having been the shift supervisor of the evening squad. Brother Dubiel was a board member of this lodge until December 2014, he served as Treasurer.
A memorial fund has been set up by this lodge in Chris’s name however it is to benefit his daughter. A donation can be made at APGFCU, 996 Beards Hill Road, Aberdeen, MD 21001. Checks should be made payable to FOP LODGE 128. We ask that in the “note” section of your donation check you write “for Hailey Dubiel.” You can also make an online donation by visiting our website at www.fop128.com or clicking here: https://squareup.com/…/harford-county-municipal-lodge-numbe…
From the Aberdeen Police Department:
Tragic Death of Aberdeen Officer
The Aberdeen Police Department suffered the tragic loss of one of their officers early today. The officer’s name is not being released at this time out of respect for the family’s privacy. Thank you for your understanding.
From Harford County Municipal FOP, Lodge #128
The executive board of this lodge learned of the untimely and tragic death of one of our members and a police officer with the Aberdeen Police Department. Our family is sad yet we are strong and we will get through and assist the officers family, as we are one family.
Out of respect for the officers family, we are not naming the officer. The officers family deserves and will be given privacy.

Tragically, this artricle is missing a very important piece of the story, cause of death!
They want money for his unborn daughter, but they don’t tell you how he died!
j says
Suicide is what I have heard.
Donna says
Really. Does it matter how he died. If it was self inflicted, it would be a very serious illness for someone to take their life and leave behind a wife and unborn child. Apparently those who posted mean comments are not in the medical profession. Have a heart. You don’t have to donate but you don’t have to be mean and hurtful.
The fact remains a life was lost and there is a grieving family who just buried their Father last Thursday so have a heart and if you can’t find your heart, don’t post. Thank you
hmmm... says
I beg to differ. With respect to donations, it certainly does matter how he died. If suicide is indeed the cause I am inclined to donate – I had a family member who took his life and just that action is painful for those left behind. Obviously if it were in the line of duty or an accident I’m also inclined to generosity. If, however, he died on a motorcycle, hang gliding, sky diving, etc.. I would only hope that he carried enough life insurance to provide for his loved ones before participating in risky behavior. There is nothing mean spirited about this and I feel for his family.

I would assume life insurance doesn’t pay for suicide. Pension is probably nuked, too.
Pavel314 says
I believe that most life insurance policies pay for suicide after you’ve been enrolled for three years.
Please be respectful says
There is a family mourning a loss. Chris was a husband, a father, a son, and a brother. Cause of death should be irreverent. His death is still a tragic and unexpected loss no matter how it happened. People should be respectful of his family and friends and keep their negative comments to themselves. This family needs support.
Harford Resident says
Why someone would leave an unborn child and spouse behind in this manner is beyond me. Unbelievable.
why says
Why an asshole like you would make a comment like that is beyond me. Due us all a favor and keep your dumbass comments to yourself. The world would be a better place without assholes like you.
whhy says
User “why”, get lost, loser.
Concerned Teacher says
Very few of us will ever be depressed enough to contemplate suicide, let alone attempt it. You are correct, it is unbelievable for the majority of people. For those suffering from depression or other mental illness, it is an daily struggle to choose between wanting to live and not wanting to live. My thoughts go out to the family as they struggle to find a way to make sense of this, knowing that in all likelihood they never will.
Jen says
What does the cause have to do with anything? A death is a death….the cause doesn’t make it hurt his loved ones any less.
Well..... says
It makes a huge difference in reporting information. Don’t “tease” the thinking readers with some information, then leave out one of the main reasons for the article.
nikki25 says
To me it doesn’t matter how he passed away, its sad that a child will not be able to grow up and be with her father. maybe it was suicide but that’s the families decision to tell that if they wanted it told it would of said it. no one knows what he was feeling inside if he did. my prayers go out to the family and all involved.
concerne citizen says
why does it matter how he passed. a death is a death do drug addicts who die of over doses catch this much grief. whos right is it to judge, not anyone. i sure hope his family and coworkers dont read this its very heart breaking what a crappy world we are living in
sandi says
I understand those who want the cause of death but it has barely been a day since he passed. Please give the family space and time. I am sure at some point the cause will come out because people like to talk but his family doesn’t need to read any judgemental or mean comments right now. I know him and he would want the absolute highest respect to be given to his wife and baby girl. Please just allow them time.

Thank you very well out!!!!

Sometimes people leave us and we don’t understand why and sometimes they leave us in ways we can’t comprehend. Pray with love…pray to lift him above. Let your grief bond you together and keep you strong in love and faith to hold each other up To my family and friends and their tragic loss. Thinking of you…..
Dave Yensan says
Chris was a great guy. He was professional and compassionate. The Aberdeen Police Department family has experienced a great loss in addition to his family. My prayers are with the family and the Department.
Seriously? says
It matters because most life insurance doesn’t cover suicide. Any benefits on the job end after his death as well. He may have provided well but tied it to benefits through work or insurance due to natural death or on the job
Suicide hit our family. It is due to an illness and he must have been in a lot of pain. The family may have survivor guilt and will question why they didn’t see it coming to stop it. It’s a hard journey.
Miss Gulch says
The sorrow never goes away, it just gets a little more bearable over time. Someone I loved dearly took his own life and at the time, he had everything going for him. You never really know what someone is thinking. Even if you ask, they may not tell you. I wish tho that I had at least asked.
My thoughts and prayers go out to this family at such a difficult time. After the business wears off that is the time when family will most need support.
Please no rude comments says
Please no rude comments. I know his wife personally and this is not easy for her as it IS. Please think how you would feel if this was your family
Long Time Resident says
As sad as his passing is for his family. He obviously had mental and emotional issues going on and yet he was a night time shift supervisor? I wonder how many cases he had an effect on that was competely incorrect? Not like our police department play fair! They make their rules up as they go along bulling people punching them in the face for being on the phone etc.. so as a night time supervisor I gues with all the issues he was dealing with the one thing he did correctly was his job. LOL and yes that was sarcasim ! I do pray for his loved ones he left behind. I sure wouldn’t want to be in his wifes shoes having to explain why DADDY isn’t around!
Thin Blue Line says
To Long Time Resident,
WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM. Chris was very good at his job and he was a good man. Sometimes the ones who are the strongest are the ones who need help and will never show it. You obviously don’t know him or the Aberdeen department. I hope you never have to experience a loss of someone close to you in a tragic way. please go spill your anti police bullshit somewhere else. Those of us who are friends and family to Sgt Dubiel and his family don’t appreciate your rude unnecessary comments.
