From Maryland State Police:
Four people are being treated at area hospitals after a Maryland State Police patrol car and another vehicle collided in a Harford County intersection this afternoon as the trooper was responding to a call.
Preliminary information available at this time indicates that shortly after 4:00 p.m. today, a state trooper assigned to the JFK Highway Barrack was responding to a call for service with lights and siren activated. The trooper’s patrol car and a civilian vehicle with three occupants collided in the intersection of Rt. 543 and Rt. 7.
The trooper and one of the occupants of the other vehicle were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. The other two occupants of the other vehicle were transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital for treatment.
Maryland State Police Crash Team investigators are on the scene conducting the investigation. Traffic will be delayed in the area as the investigation continues.
Additional information will be provided later this evening when it is available.

The State Trooper was responding to a call with lights and sirens…that means pull over, stop …let them pass safely. This unfortunately is what happens when you do not follow the law and pull over, stop…were the civilians in a hurry…Hope the State Trooper is not in serious condition, nor the civilians who did not follow the law. Does this need to be a Road Sign “Stop, pull over at ALL times to allow all vehicles of Emergency to pass Safely when sirens & lights are clearly present”….were the civilians texting..on their phone…also against the Maryland LaW!

Loud music, inattentive driving…you are correct, sir! Hope everyone walks away with no lasting effects.

Over ~35mph a vehicle’s occupants will not hear an approaching siren, thus why emergency vehicles slow down and observe the intersection before running a red light.

What’s up with seeing so many idiots driving around with earbuds in or even headphones on? WTF headphones? Right, there’s nothing going on around me that I might actually need to HEAR. I see people – no, a$$holes, talking on the phone and/or texting while driving EVERY DAY. Hey, if that’s you, you’re an A$$hole! Frankly I’m surprised anyone cares to hear what you lackwit simpletons have to say anyhow. While I’m on the box, why don’t the po-po start pulling all these blacked out cars over and issuing repair orders to get the tint legal? I pull up to a stop sign and look over to see a blacked out car and I have no idea if the idiot is looking, sleeping or dead. Probably doing drugs – or texting, why else hide?

May we all say a prayer to whoever you pray too that the Trooper will recover fully and return to his job serving us. With all the crap the police have been receiving lately, lets think about the hard working dedicated law enforcement officers who risk their lives everyday for us. Prayers also go out to the families of the two officers killed in Mississippi this weekend.
And of course continued well wishes for the others injured for a speedy recovery.

you are assuming the civilian was not paying attention. We should wait for all the facts to come out. Maybe the trooper did not slow to observe the intersection as they approached?

Still waiting for the facts, but……Just an fyi, emergency vehicles, by statute, are NOT EVER allowed to run through a red light or stop sign without FIRST STOPPING, making sure the intersection is clear and then proceding.
Think I am kidding, ask the BCFD engine operator charged with manslaughter after killing a motorist when the engine ran a rec light.
