From the Bel Air Drama Company:
This past weekend, the Bel Air Drama Company was one of the first high school theatre troupes in the region to present a production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s magical musical Mary Poppins. With a cast of 38 students plus another 35 backstage crew members, the Drama Company presented four performances to sold out audiences in the state-of-the-art Bel Air High School Auditorium.
The cast was lead by Katie Allison (Mary Poppins), Noah Courtney (Bert), plus newcomers Erik Uebelacker (Michael Banks) and Hariana Sethi (Jane Banks). Mr. and Mrs. Banks were portrayed by Marvin Dunmeyer and Devin Hott. The show was filled with spectacular musical and dance numbers such as A Spoonful of Sugar, Supercalifragilisticexpiialidocious, and Step in Time. The play was enhanced by technical effects that allowed Mary’s magical world to come alive in front of the audience’s eyes.
Prior to Saturday afternoon’s matinee presentation, the group hosted an interactive luncheon where attendees were able to enjoy a Vic-torian tea party and visit with the charac-ters from the show. Over 200 people attended and created memories that they will never forget.
The creative production team included Musical Director — Terri Mathews, Choreographer — Benjamin Smith and Director — Chuck Bowden. The directorial team was also supported by over 50 adult/parent volunteers who all came together to create a memorable experience for every-one who attended and was involved.
The Bel Air Drama Company is the extra-curricular drama program at Bel Air High School. The troupe recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and had presented over 60 major productions on the Bel Air High School Stage, typically producing 2 presentations each fall as well as a large-scale musical in the spring. The group also hosts the North East Theatre Festival (a regional gathering of high schools, colleges and community theatre groups) at the school every February.
