The cause of a Monday afternoon fire which damaged an Aberdeen garage remains under investigation, fire officials said.
The renter of a storage unit in a one-story concrete block garage located on South Law Street in Aberdeen was welding outside of the unit when the fire was discovered inside the garage at approximately 1:30 p.m., according to a release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
A total of 30 firefighters from the Aberdeen, Aberdeen Proving Ground and Susquehanna Hose fire companies responded and brought the blaze under control in approximately 20 minutes. The Maryland Department of the Environment and the Harford County Haz-Mat Team also responded to the scene.
Damage to the structure was estimated at $5,000 and damages to its contents were estimated at $15,000, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
