From The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region:
The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region’s (The Arc NCR) Treatment Foster Care (TFC) program is seeking people willing to open their homes and hearts to help a child. Thousands of children in Maryland are placed in foster care. Treatment Foster Care at The Arc NCR helps the neediest of these children who have suffered abuse and neglect, and without people to provide a home locally, these children will continue to suffer the trauma of being moved away from their community. TFC parents provide loving homes, a high level of care for children in need and stable relationships that are meant to last a lifetime.
“Imagine losing everything you love in your life, including your family, home, school, church and friends. Imagine not knowing where your next meal will come from or where you’ll be sleeping next week. This is the reality for hundreds of children in Baltimore, Cecil and Harford Counties who are in foster care during this holiday season,” explains Director of Treatment Foster Care at The Arc NCR, Joel Lightfoot.
Treatment Foster Care at The Arc NCR trains and certifies foster parents. Potential parents can expect to receive 27 hours of initial training, as well as additional training throughout the year; children who are the best match for their home; frequent contact and support from licensed clinical social workers; 24-hour emergency on-call services; financial support to care for the child; individualized planning; and respite services. You can attend an information session about the foster care training process to decide if becoming a foster parent is right for you. Citizen says
my hat goes off for foster parents. You bring total strangers into your house and they become family. It’s not an easy task, but the children need someone to love and care for them. Take a moment and think about opening your home and heart! You will be the one who finds true joy in having a child look at you and smile.
