From Harford County Public Schools:
Through the generosity of Harford United Charities, Inc., the Carson Scholars Fund is pleased to announce the opening of the Ben Carson Reading Room at Prospect Mill Elementary School. The grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will take place on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Prospect Mill Elementary School, 101 Prospect Mill Road, Bel Air, MD 21015. Scheduled to attend are Candy Carson, Co-Founder of the Carson Scholars Fund, and David Craig of Harford United Charities.
The Ben Carson Reading Project is an initiative of the Carson Scholars Fund. The Carson Scholars Fund was founded by retired world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon and New York Times bestselling author Dr. Ben Carson and his wife, Candy. The purpose of the Ben Carson Reading Project is to create a literacy enriched environment for children to develop their reading skills. The reading project is dedicated to promoting reading as a key to unlocking a child’s full potential.
Dr. Ben Carson credits reading as being a catalyst to his success. “When I was a child, I discovered inside of books I could go anyplace, I could be anybody, I could do anything” said Dr. Carson. “If a child has a dream, they can enhance that dream through reading. To provide a place for children to fall in love with reading opens the door to their imagination, sparking creativity and exercising their mind.”
“Prospect Mill Elementary is honored to join the many outstanding schools that are fortunate to have a Ben Carson Reading Room” said Principal Chris Cook. “This project will help instill the same level of inspiration and determination into our students that Dr. Carson has instilled in countless others, both in his words and actions. We are proud to partner with Harford United Charities and are grateful for their generosity as a Ben Carson Reading Room sponsor. We also hope that the Carson Reading Room will motivate children to spread goodwill and fortune with others, just as Harford United Charities has modeled for our school community. The Ben Carson Reading room will assist our students in not only thinking big, but achieving our vision of preparing students for the future and inspiring them to make a difference.”
Currently there are 117 Ben Carson Reading Rooms with eight reading room locations in Harford County Public Schools. The Ben Carson Reading Project serves students in 16 states and Washington D.C. To learn more about the Carson Scholars Fund visit www.carsonscholars.org.

Free PR? says
So what does the Carson Scholars contribute to these reading rooms besides branding it and maybe a big photo of Dr. Carson? I’m under the impression that the schools have to do all the work and raise all the funds. Why not the Parents of Prospec Mill Reading Room or in this case the Harford United Charities Reading Room? Am I mistaken?
