Harford County Department of Emergency Services Hosts “Prepare Because You Care” Program

The Harford County Department of Emergency Services will host a new “all hazards” emergency preparedness and safety program titled “Prepare Because You Care” beginning January 2015. The program is a four-week initiative commencing Wednesday, January 14 at the Harford County Department of Emergency Services in Forest Hill. Sessions begin at 7:00 p.m. and conclude at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Those wishing to participate in the classes must be at least 16 years of age or older. Participants are encouraged to attend each of the four Wednesday evening sessions. The Department of Emergency Services will issue a certificate of training to those who complete all four sessions of the program.

The “Prepare Because You Care” program includes topics such as “Emergency Management and Preparedness”, “Fire Safety and Fire Extinguisher Use”, “Crime Prevention and Awareness”, and “CPR/First Aid”.

Commenting on the course, Harford County Emergency Manager Rick Ayers said, “This new program is designed for those who have limited knowledge regarding the various topics. The course will be exciting and interactive and will help citizens to become better prepared to handle emergencies and survive the first 72 hours following a disaster,” Ayers remarked.

Public safety partners assisting the Department of Emergency Services with the four-week course include the Harford County Sheriff’s Office and Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.
