A Fallston home was gutted by a two-alarm fire which broke out Sunday afternoon, fire officials said.
The fire was reported by a passerby in a single-story ranch home in the 2900 block of Beechwood Lane in Fallston shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday, according to a release from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
A total of 75 firefighters from several Harford and Baltimore county fire departments eventually responded to the two-alarm blaze, with the Fallston Volunteer Fire Company serving as the primary fire department. The fire was brought under control in approximately one hour.
Damage to the home and its contents was estimated at a total of $500,000, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The fire’s point of origin and cause remained under investigation Sunday night.

I see that 32 million dollar dispatch center paid off. How do you burn a house down in the middle of the day?
Original Observer says
Not sure. In another place I read that the family was not home at the time. I’m sure one of the numerous fire marshals who reported to the scene will have something to say about the fire’s origins in a few days. First guesses: Overloaded electrical outlet, malfunctioning pellet stove.
Info says
A house can burn down in the middle of the day if no one calls 911 until the house is 50% involved.
INFORMED says
IN RESPONSE TO NONE’S OBVIOUS HAVING NO CLUE IN WHAT THERE TALKING ABOUT COMMENT. HARFORD COUNTY HAS A VOLUNTEER FIRE SERVICE WHICH MEANS THAT THERE ISNT SOMEONE AT THE FIREHOUSE ALL THE TIME SO THE DISPATCH CENTER HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HOUSE BURNING DOWN. HERES A THOUGHT NONE WHY DONT YOU DEVOTE SOME TIME AND HELP THE FIRE SERVICE SO THEY HAVE MORE HELP AND SAVE EVERYONES LIVES AND PROPERTY.

Please see the details of this fire on http://www.fvfac.org, FVFAC and Harford County Md Fire and EMS PIO fb pages. The large column of smoke from the fire was visible at the time of the 911 calls and initial dispatch from many areas of Harford and Baltimore Counties. And while there is no guarantee that each volunteer fire station is fully staffed at any given time, FVFAC had just run several previous fire and EMS calls. Many members were already at the station on this Sunday afternoon, as they responded immediately with an engine, tanker, ladder truck, and special unit. I live 1.5 miles from the station, left my driveway as the initial dispatch was being completed and drove the 4th piece of fire apparatus (rescue-engine ) to the scene. Let’s wait for the OSFM to determine the true cause of this fire, and possibly we can use this family’s worst day ever as a teachable moment to our own families and friends.
Oh,…and the dispatchers did a commendable job of handling the 911 calls, dispatching needed resources from three counties to this fire, and covering all the other emergency incidents in Harford County during this incident.
