From James “Jim” D. Thornton:
To the Citizens of Harford County:
I wish to express my deepest and most profound gratitude to all the voters of Harford County who cast their ballots for me in my quest to become the next President of the Harford County Council. We were unsuccessful in this attempt, my first campaign for elected public office, but it has been an experience that I would not have missed!
It has been very humbling for me to meet so many of you that shared my concerns, and who felt that I was the best person for this important job.
I spoke with Councilman Slutzky on Wednesday and congratulated him on his election to President of the Harford County Council. The Council is faced with many significant issues over the next several months; the one which I believe has to be high on their list is how they will work with the County Executive to address the uncompetitive salary situation for all county employes.
To my campaign staff and to the campaign volunteers — you have my thanks and my respect forever! Your hard work was astounding and daunting. Without you, I could not have come nearly as far. I need to thank most of all my Campaign Chairman, John Haggerty; my Campaign Manager, Russ Kovach; my Treasurer, Carolyn Wilkerson; and Rosemarie O’Brien, my Events Coordinator. There are many others, too, who should be thanked, and I will do so privately and immediately.
Thanks again to you all, and let’s all work together for the sake of our beautiful Harford County!
James “Jim” D. Thornton

Mr. Thornton,
Very nice and an impressive effort. You have much to be proud of even without the win.
Sam says
You lost. Get over it!
W.T.F.? says
Sam, YOU are a dick.
Keith Gabel says
The County is going from a Republican dominated council, led by a Republican county executive to a Republican dominated council, led by a Republican county executive, the changes will be revolutionary, or, most likely, non-existent.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Finally, words of sanity and reason. I was wondering when someone was going to finally question all those “Time For A Change” signs that were floating around Harford County. Harford County definitely voted “Red”, but Harford County was already “Red”………
Helen Hunt says
Mr Thornton you are once again 1 of over 250,000 Harford county residents. Welcome to the sea of voices no one listens to. Your 15 minutes is over.
Christina Trotta says
As Coach Slutzky was the opposition vote for a $25,000 salary hike for the County Executive position, I would be extremely happy to see him announce a repeal bill as his first order of business.
It’s disrespectful to all our county employees to hand out a 20% raise while most of them wait years for a COLA increase.
Additionally, President Slutzky will have three new members on the council to swing the vote the way the citizens have vocalized overwhelmingly – No!
Rita Lowe says
The county EMPLOYEES have been without an increase or a cola for six years. Wouldn’t it be advisable to see to that first before the County Executive gets his $25,000. raise?

I hope Slutzky repeals Craig’s back door property deal in Havre de Grace.
