From JoAnn M. Macdonald:
Dear Editor:
The importance of voting in the November 4th election is crucial to the well-being of Harford County. This is no mere “off-year”. In County Council District A the communities of Edgewood, Joppa, Joppatowne, Magnolia and the newly added part of Abingdon, make this district one of the most important seats on the Council. With our County Council representative Dion Guthrie, we in this district successfully fought against the installation of a waste transfer station on Route 7 near Route 152 and prevented the incinerator plant from being built on Trimble Road where Kohl’s is now located.
We could not have found a more dedicated, more concerned, true champion for the citizens of District A. He works with all citizens and parties—he presents the problems citizens have, to the proper entities—no matter if it is the county executive who frequently disagrees with him. We are involved in petitioning the county to purchase the Joppatowne pool property from the new owner, so that we can have a much-needed community center for the greater Joppa and Joppatowne area.
In the past four years, Dion worked with the US Army to remove the existing incinerator plant, along Trimble Road between Joppatowne and Edgewood. He has worked with the Kohl’s company to put its distribution center there—creating thousands of jobs in his district! Dion attends every meeting of Edgewood, Joppa/Joppatowne, Abingdon, and Bush River Community Councils to keep citizens informed.
Dion’s endorsements to date: The Harford County Deputy Sheriffs Union, Parents Choice of Maryland, African-American Democratic Club of Harford County, Harford County Business for Responsible Government, Teacher Recommended by the MSEA and HCEA, Legislative Association Group of the Harford County Real Estate Association, Sierra Club and Baltimore Sun.
I encourage District A voters to re-elect Dion Guthrie!

Fed up in Harford says
Oh, this is rich. Hook, line and sinker.
Joppatowne Resident says
Mr. Guthrie has my vote. I have always found him to be a true public servant, concerned with the issues facing his constituents, and advocating for us.

All the incumbents need to go. In with new. Just my opinion…….just NOT written in 750 words. But entitled to it, just like the BIG letter above. Election Day is the time.
Dion F .Guthrie says
Be careful what you ask for when you say “All incumbents need to go”. My a opponent is from the Tea Party and is Co founder of the “Harford County Campaign for Liberty” establish in 2008. He also said that he would support more money for schools “if we can find the money elsewhere”. Where’s that? He also stated “The Department of Economic Development wastes a lot of time and money loaning or outright giving away our hard earned tax dollars”. Dept of Eco Dev has done an outstanding job creating 1000’s of jobs, not only for our County, but for District A, the district he want’s to represent and he is oppose to that. Eco Dev have never “given away” any of our tax dollars that they did not receive interest on their money and jobs, thousands of jobs. There was a bill introduce before the Council (Bill 14-16) called the “Livability Code” which dealt with the clean up of our blighted communities and all for our vacant housing, my opponent was vehemently oppose to that legislation and even came to the Council meeting and testify against that bill. My opponent has absolutely NO experience for the position he is running for, look up the records. I had 20 years experience before I ever ran for this position. And in his own words when ask about the DAC hearings (Development Advisory Committee) and the CIM (Community Input Meetings) he stated “I will be honest and admit that I am not yet up to speed on the details of the DAC process in Harford County”. And he wants you to put him on the County Council and give him a full time job which he does not have now. Only in America!
Barbara says
And only in America could someone be elected to two terms on the County Council with the ability to write what is written above! Scary, to say the least.
Super Fundraiser Site says
It’s interesting that councilman Guthrie had the incinerator shut down so the Kohls distribution plant could be built there. I guess we can ignore the fact the incinerator is still operating and that the building Kohls now operates has been there for 20 years.
Big John says
Like YOU had a wealth of Experience when you 1st ran? Surely you jest! It is amazing, there was a former State Representative that told me, ” please idle threats we get you nowhere” when I told him ” how you vote on a particular issue will dictate how I VOTE in the next election”. Which I think, is my right! So now YOU are telling me the same thing ? Ok! Making those statements will be noted, today and ELECTION DAY.Big John
Big John says
And just because YOU say you have 20 years experience, certainly does NOT mean you are good at it. Just because I changed the oil in 75 cars does NOT make me an expert, just that I did it 75 times. Sir, you could NOT make a decision on the County Executive raise deal, by your OWN admission, THAT should be good enough reason to “dock your pay”.
Terry Hartison says
What’s wrong with the Tea Party?
Only a liberal says
A liberal is a man who will give away everything that he doesn’t own.
Money given away to corporations could have been used to give teachers their pay increases.
You did manage to give some people in Harford County government a nice pay raise. That’s right you did vote for the county executive to get a raise. A true man of the people.
Mike Perrone has a shot to beat you.
Another question Dion… Robert Frish, a Harford County Board of Education candidate, got a few more votes than you did in the last election. Is that why he was redistricted?
So Mike Perrone does have a real shot to beat you.
