I hope that Anderson’s reopens; I hate having to run to Home Depot when I need some nails or bolts.
Bel Air Phil from Joppaland says
Anderson’s was the first Hardware store my dad took me to when I was maybe 5. Always liked walking through the different buildings – especially where they kept the feed for animals. Glad they are planning to rebuild!
Needs to know says
LOL
People don’t rent office space that’s already built and “move in” ready. Why build more?
Aberdeen, next to the Target is a good example of a major “oops”

Need to know,, you should concern yourself with things you can control. How other spend their money is none of your concern.
Needs to know says
Interesting comment, when did I tell you what to do?
You should concern yourself in finding out who your real father is.

I was adopted.
Lady Anne says
I tend to agree with Need To Know. We have acres of vacant office and business space, and yet we are continuing to build more. It’s foolish. As an example, the strip mall at the corner of Philadelphia Road and Forge Road in Baltimore County stood stone empty for over a year, and now there is a sign that indicates possible new development on the opposite corner. What is the reasoning behind this? (And yes, I know it’s not Harford County, I pass it frequently, so I’m familiar with it.) Empty spaces quickly turn into trouble spots; by keeping otherwise vacant buildings and offices in use, we would be 1) offering employment to local residents, and 2) keeping property values up.
I’ll admit I don’t know all the ins and outs, but it has always seemed to me that the old Ames Department store in Edgewood could have been razed and the Home Depot put there, rather than paving over more land further north.

I am a frequent shopper at the Home Depot on Route 40, but if it had been located at the old Ames store, I would go to the Home Depot in Bel Air. A bit longer drive, but the old Ames store location would attract the Section Eight blacks from across Route 40 and be unsafe. No shopping in that area for me until Maryland makes concealed carry easier to obtain.
Keith Gabel says
If you are that afraid, you could stay at home and do all of your shopping online.
Lady Anne says
Not everyone who lives in Section 8 housing is black, or lazy, or armed, or dishonest. There are folks with college educations, laid off from GOOD jobs, who are now living on the edge of society, earning minimum wage, and Section 8 is all they can afford.
A Home Depot, or other large employer, at the old Ames site would have provided decent jobs within walking distance of Windsor Valley or Harford Commons. Instead, the new building was constructed a good distance from any housing, and since Harford County, in its infinite wisdom, does not see fit to run busses on Sundays, the very people who needed those jobs the most were prevented from reaching them.
none says
Need to know and Lady Anne are you two related. As long as your not paying for it why do you care? Everyone of these new buildings is paying higher taxes. They are not spending your money.
Jeff "Big D" Anhus says
You have your agenda, and then I have mine.
I like to know why they are building more offices when the ones built are not being used. Don’t tell me its not my business, I gawk at unused office space with “lease” on them and empty parking lots for year s, its an eyesore and a waste.
Again, your agenda might be enthusiastic about not caring how many more big glass window, brick buildings are erected but its not mine.
Do you understand this? If not, move along little doggy and troll somewhere else.

It’s the neighborhood busy body syndrome where they lack the ability to mind their own business. Brought to you by the makers of reality tv.
Crazy says
I think we need to adopt a law that any commercial space that is vacant for more than a year be turned into section 8 housing or shelter for the homeless. At least we could put those eyesores to good use that way.
really says
We don’t need anymore section 8, raise the property values. The shopping center in fallston has been empty except for the grocery store and dance studio. So many options there…. Section 8 in fallston?????? Don’t jump on that idea. Bottom line is we have enough!!!! More accidents, more congestion and headaches not needed. Don’t make Harford County a city. Leave it alone, just clean it up!!!! No more building!!!!!
