Hazzard Native says
Is this a missing endangered person, or is she wanted in connection with a crime? Yes, it matters.
don't worry about it says
You have no idea what you are talking about.
SoulCrusher says
Maybe if you answered the persons question, you would get some cooperation…….I mean seriously, is this a problem with identifying your purpose? Is she wanted for a crime or simply because she has been reported missing? Anyway, Hazzard Native, I am sure they have already gotten your IP address by now and have your house staked out. You probably should have never replied on this website……..

Hey this is one of my school mates yes i gop to aberdeen high and no i dont know her but i care aboput everybody i hope we find her
home school mom says
Dear Zach, I appreciate your heartfelt concern for your schoolmate and join you in wishing her speedy return to those that care for her.
However, I also want to point out that you are a student in the government school system in Harford County. Your post is sloppy and full of errors. I can only assume that you and your instructors do not care about the quality of your communications.
I personally would like to see HC teachers receive the pay advances they were promised. I believe in keeping agreements. On the other hand, I also want to point out that the product they deliver is often substandard. When Mr. Burbey and his cry babies whine to the school board about the elevated nature of their profession and the lack of respect they get from the public, I hope some brave soul on the board can use your post as exhibit A.
I’m sorry that your deficient effort is being held up as an example. Perhaps you don’t care. Those of us that fund HCPSs do.
Cdev says
You don’t pay well enough to complain!
Concerned Mom says
As much as I agree with your point Home School Mom, this is not the time, nor the place to rant. Someones child is missing. I suggest you aim your dissatisfaction at the superintendent of HCPS.
Step Back Citizen says
What a Bitch!
Really??? says
Someone goes missing and all you can do is comment about one of her classmate’s poor English spelling and grammar?
Your post just goes to show how conceited some residents of this county really are.
There are a lot of teachers that also do care about students, and the subject matter that they teach, but they can only correct so much from learned behavior from both home and the society around them.
the professor says
Only a home mother would post such insensitive remarks as they isolate themselves from society and their children are just plain weird. These kids often have the social skills taught at home and while they may be book smart, they lack the tack and sensible common sense to deal with real world events. I don’t know why she comments about another kid, whom may be distraught about someone their age and the events unfolding, but mom needs to get a grip, have another drink and beat her children once more as they “learn” from a book how to behave in public because their mother doesn’t really know how???
Home School Mom says
Professor, I have to agree with most of the comments directed against me. I thought long and hard before I hit send on this one. I too was very concerned about the young lady and was greatly relieved when I learned that she had been found. As a parent, I can only imagine the terror that her loved ones felt while she was missing.
However, I saw an opportunity to point out an obvious problem that people avoid. The very low standards in our schools. It’s not a matter of money. Government schools are failing. Some of the work I have seen from so called “Gifted and Talented” is just a grade above mediocre. I expect it to get much worse and much more expensive with Common Core on the horizon. We need to fuel the education industry after all.
Also, I think you meant TACT rather than tack and you misuse “whom”. I’ll give you a pass on the redundancy of “sensible common sense” as you also may be a recent graduate of our government school system.
And just for the record, the majority of home school children are poised, sociable and broadly accomplished. They are comfortable in many social settings and really stand out because they are different. There are some wonderful kids in government schools and they go on to do great things. For the most part, these are children that would succeed in any setting. I only ask how much better could we do if we were to eliminate the unions and ever growing central control?
Gooter says
“And just for the record, the majority of home school children are poised, sociable and broadly accomplished.”
**False. The majority of home schooled children are socially inept and are awkward in most normal type of interactions with other humans. Because of their lack of social interaction with children of their own age, on a frequent and recurring basis, they learn many of their traits from their teacher – in most cases, the Mother. Seeing as how you are obviously have a ‘holier than thou’ attitude, I can only imagine that your poised, accomplished home schooled child is just as hoity-toity.
“They are comfortable in many social settings and really stand out because they are different.”
**False, yet true in parts. See above response to your opinion that they are comfortable in many social settings. Quite the opposite, they don’t interact with other children on a higher level, and are therefore unskilled in human interaction…unless you call being taught by your Mom, in a kitchen, socially acceptable. Most, later in life, will find embarrassment from being home schooled and not having the ritualistic upbringing of their future peers.
True, in the sense that they do stand out because they are different.
No fault to the kids, but the parents who home-school their children because of some fear of harm, some fear of their child being ridiculed because they have some defect (physical, emotional, etc…), is merely setting up the child to fail later in life. Children need to have those “bad” interactions, as well as the good ones, to build defenses and to learn to handle life’s common problems.
Yes, this is opinion and fact – take a look at the National Board of Education and their metrics on children who where Home Schooled versus “Government” funded. You will see a surprising statistic. I’ll give you a hint – home school is a little more than “way behind”.
Cdev says
Common Core isn’t on the horizon people…..it’s here!
Cdev says
That would be the majority of Home School kids who stay home schooled. The ones who wash up in a year when the accountability piece kicks in and they did nothing so their parents put them back in public schools are usually worse off! This happens frequently!
Step Back Citizen says
I still think Home School Mom is a pompous ass, for her lack of sensitivity in this whole situation. Just my opinion.
sqausage says
The only thing I find “weird,” are the amount of people who use multiple names to pass themselves off as more than 1 person with the same intent of responses for indivdual news article’s.

Home school mom ~
You’re ignorant! A 17 or 18 year old girl is missing and all you can do is criticize the grammar of another teenager who is concerned for his classmate. So glad that you have the privilege of homeschooling while others have no choice but to work and send their child to either public or private school. We trust that they are getting the best education possible and pray that it’s a safe place for that education. Hopefully your home is a safe place as well for learning.
Home School Mom says
Sports Girl, I have to admit that my post does seem insensitive given the situation. Thankfully, she has been found.
I notice that you “trust” our children are getting the best education possible, and that you “pray” that the schools are safe. It sounds like you’re not confident that those conditions actually exist and you’re just hoping for the best.
Not a ringing endorsement for the government school system.
henry says
Praise the lord.
I hope the Dagger keeps up with this story, what was she doing in Baltimore county? Was she abducted?
We need to be careful for our children’s sake.
Hank says
If she was abducted I’m sure it would’ve said that. Otherwise, it’s really none of your business why she was found in Baltimore County.
RTFU says
If it was none of our business, then why did they print it?
Hank says
There was a news release because she was missing and evidently there were concerns initially about how and why she was missing. If it turned out that she just decided to cut out of school and ended up in Baltimore County of her own volition and was unharmed, then it’s not really anyone’s business exactly how that happened.
Obviously they had to post a followup that she was found. If there was anything to concern the public about (like someone kidnapping students out of local high schools) you better believe that would be all over the media.
Thomas "Big D" Druvis says
Funny how the drug addiction of young people isn’t covered on the news.. Oh wait.
Wasn’t Harford County featured on “Drugs Inc” National Geographic channel?
henry says
If it made the news it’s everyone’s business. She was being sought by the Aberdeen Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, not just the cops, but the CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DIVISION. Keeping the public informed is important.
henry says
I think this might be a rape case and since she is a minor they can’t say.
henry says
I think since she is under 17 it’s probably a rape case and they can’t say so because she is a minor.
ProudmychildsinHCPS says
Home school mom,
you should be ashamed of yourself. Your simple lack of compassion and your ability to freely put Down a CHILD shows you’re nothing more than a common bully. If you don’t agree with something, even if it has nothing to do with you because you homeschool your children, than do something to change it that isnt at the expense of a child. Especially one you know nothing about. I’m PROUD my child attends HCPS and they have done a wonderful job educating her. She will graduate early, with honors, and will continue her education at a wonderful college with a full scholarship, thanks in part to our wonderful school system. You have come onto a post about a missing child to belittle and berate a child for your own cause which, as an adult is unacceptable. I hope that you aren’t teaching your children the lack of compassion and morals you have displayed here. If the school system didn’t work for you or you just don’t like public schools, as a parent that is your choice but to put down the children that do attend the schools, without knowing their situation, their education ability or their academic achievement, is pretty self centered and completely uncalled for. As a parent I make the best decisions I can in every area of my child’s life as I hope you do as well. HCPS has faults, as I’m sure you do even if your horse is too high for you to see them, however much like yourself, they have many, many positives that maybe aren’t displayed in their best ability because people are so quick to point out every fault instead of looking for the positive. I know many children who are homeschooled and I have not one bad thing to say about them nor you for your decision to do so, however don’t be the stereotypical homeschooling, know it all person you’ve portrayed yourself to be if you have a point you’re trying to get accross an maybe others would actually listen to what you’re trying to say.
In closing, I would like to say I am happy this child has been found and I’m happy that my child attends the school she does where I know her saftey and education are put first! She has big dreams and thanks to HCPS, they will be a reality!
Thomas "Big D" Druvis says
Wow, cool story. As if anyone really cares? Nope.
Home School Mom says
Proud My Child etc, I can see you are very proud of your daughter and I congratulate you on your success with her.
I am not ashamed. I think we all need to be a little less concerned about children’s self esteem when it is apparent that their skills are seriously substandard. It’s pain now or pain later. Do we do our children a favor when we turn a blind eye to their deficiencies? Do we do our fellow citizens a favor when we refuse to acknowledge the failures of the government schools? Do government schools serve our children when they advance them despite the failure to demonstrate proficiency on a basic level? The child is a high school student and has yet to master the sentence.
It is likely that your daughter would have flourished wherever she went. Most children are not so lucky and the proof is everywhere that government schools are not preparing our children for adult success. Just check out the need for remedial instruction at any college to confirm this. If children need remediation then why have they graduated from high school?
It is unfortunate that the Aberdeen student that posted such a poorly crafted piece of communication is at the center of this controversy. It it quite possible that I am the only one telling him/her that he/she needs to beef up his/her skills. Perhaps he/she will take a serious look at this and improve him or herself. That would be a good thing. However, my objective was not to shame the child but to use his/her deficiencies to make a statement about failing schools.
Thomas "Big D" Druvis says
People are just generally strange. As a society, we always have to reinforce our worthless rants by providing moot information.
If someone fixes your car improperly, and you call them out, they will say “I’ve been doing this for xx amount of years. You don’t know what you’re talking about” Why do people do that?
What’s the point of my post? Don’t k kW, but I’m sure you whoofed down a big cheese burger in your fatass while reading this on a smart phone as you drive your car.

Gooter, Your comments about the benefits of home schooling sound more like opinion than actual fact. Perhaps you can look through this article,

and absorb some facts. There are many more out there if you care to immerse yourself in a dose of reality.

Homeschool Jane,
This great country allows for choice when it comes to schools. You can pick homeschooling, public schooling, private schooling, etc. The downfall with your argument has little to do with schools…it has to do with people. We need young people to be able to work with a diverse population. Everyone isn’t born with a silver spoon. Shelter your kid now. Real life requires you to mix.
Farts in socially awkward situations says
The “homeschooled” kids are weird comment is a little off base and a personal opinion.
Kids don’t even speak with each other anymore, they text each other, from 3 feet away. Just go into any restaurant in Harford County.
Considering public schools will shit can am entire assembly In am auditorium based on 1 kids politically correct personal problem, I’d say the “sheltered” argument is moot.

I love that being everyone portrays Edgewood a bad area for drugs. That was taped on 152 in Fallston, and another in Belcamp and Abingdon. I grew up and attended high school in Edgewood. I am no longer there however, we come and visit all the time. I hope she is safe now.
