From Harford County government:
Harford County Executive David R. Craig, Director of the Office of Economic Development Jim Richardson and Harford County Government hosted Business Appreciation Week, September 10-17, 2014.
Each day, the county executive and representatives of the Office of Economic Development toured businesses in the county to recognize them for their hard work and success. It was a chance for the administration to say “Thank You” for their work.
“I was able to learn about the challenges and growth that the businesses face daily. The visits provided valuable information on the strengths of county businesses,” said County Executive Craig.
On Wednesday, county leaders attended the Economic Development Advisory Board meeting at Swan Harbor followed by the Harford Award Ceremony where local businesses received recognition for their commitment to the county including producers with The House of Cards.
On Thursday, the team visited Aberdeen and Belcamp with stops at Northeastern Maryland Technology Council (NMTC), Nu-Tek Precision Optical Corporation, Dave Wheatley Enterprises, QuickSilver Analytics, Incorporated, McShane’s Bistro and SafeNet.
On Friday, the OED group joined Havre de Grace Mayor Wayne Dougherty and Havre de Grace Economic Development Director Tom Lofland with stops at the Bayou Restaurant, J.M. Huber Corporation, Amanda’s Florist, BCH Realty and Coakley’s Pub.
On Monday, the county executive and the Office of Economic Development toured Bel Air with Town Administrator James Fielder and Bel Air Economic Development Director Trish Heidenreich visiting Postman Plus, Kroh’s Cleaners, Safe Harbors Travel Group, Charm City Run and Boyd & Fulford. In the afternoon, OED toured Enotria, Ecotone, S.A.M.’s Salon, Spa and Barber and Harford Vineyard.
On Tuesday, the team joined the Mayor of Aberdeen, Michael Bennett and Director of Planning and Community Development Phyllis Grover and Aberdeen’s Economic Development Commission Chair Steve Johnson. They visited Home2 Suites by Hilton, Pier 1, Northrop Grumman, Olympia Sports and La Tolteca.
Rounding out the week on Wednesday, the group toured Clorox Products Manufacturing, Worthington Armstrong Venture (WAVE) and Rite Aid Mid-Atlantic Customer Distribution Center.
“Visiting with the CEOs, managers and staff of these diverse companies gives us a more accurate picture of how our team can provide resources in helping the companies to grow. We appreciate the business leaders hosting us throughout the week so we can gauge how business is doing in our County and adapt to the changing needs in the various industries,” commented Jim Richardson, Director of Economic Development.
The Office of Economic Development staff will continue to follow up with the business leaders in the next few weeks to address any concerns they may have voiced during the visits.
