Edgewood, MD- The Patterson Mill Huskies used a strong defensive effort, with some timely offense and a key special teams play, to take a 14-6 win over the Joppatowne Mariners Friday night at Edgewood High School. The Huskies improved to 2-1, while the Mariners fell to 0-3.
Neither team was able to crack the scoreboard in the first half. The Mariners had the best opportunity, however, and it came on their first possession. After Shawn Johnson came up with an interception that set the Mariners up on the door step of the red zone. The Huskies’ defense held, however, and forced a 36 yard field goal attempt from the Mariners, which was missed.
Huskies’ quarterback Jordan Reid gave his team the lead in the third quarter with 5:04 remaining. He snuck into the end zone from two yards out, and after an extra point, Patterson Mill led 7-0.
Joppatowne responded in a big way for their first points of the season. After a Huskie punt, the Mariners had the ball on their own 22 yard line. That’s when quarterback Kenny Baroch found Raquan Demby for a 78 yard touchdown. The Mariners called timeout and then elected to go for two. Baroch split out wide to the right, and running back Shawn Johnson took a direct snap and rushed left. He broke several tackles, but was ultimately stopped inches shy of the goal line, and the Huskies maintained a lead at 7-6.
Late in the fourth quarter, with the Huskies still up one, the Mariners drove down the field and had an opportunity for the win. With just twenty seconds left, Nicholas Lloyd lined up for a 44 yard field goal for Joppatowne. However, the Huskies’ special teams blocked the kick, and Harrison Pfeiffer ran the loose ball back for a touchdown with just three seconds left, sealing a win for Patterson Mill.
Patterson Mill travels to Perryville next week, while Joppatowne hosts Rising Sun in a game that will be played at Aberdeen.

Our Varsity and JV boys soccer teams suffered tough losses to Harford Tech on Thursday. I watched both games and Tech has good JV and Varsity boys soccer teams. Each game was a 1-0 loss. Great job by Varsity Football tonight, fought hard!
BaysScr says
In the Varsity soccer game shots were about 30 to 2 Huskies. They def had their chances to win. Don’t think Tech had a shot on goal until the OT but its goals that count.

Who cares. This county cares more about athletics than they do academics.
