From the Office of U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski:
U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) today made the following statement on the Senate floor to mark the 13th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:
“On this auspicious day, September 11th, 2014, I would like to pay my respects once again and express my heartfelt sympathy to the families of people who died on September 11th throughout this country – at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.
“To the wonderful first responders who risked their lives and they themselves perished, we express our deepest gratitude and respect. To those who were wounded or sick and bear the permanent burden of their response to that awful tragedy, we remember and thank you. And to the families who lost loved ones and live with it every single day, who have an empty chair at Christmas or Thanksgiving or Hanukkah, or whatever your faith holiday where families gather and remember, we send you our deepest condolences.
“The nation cannot forget what happened that day, and it cannot forget why it happened. And we cannot forget the people who were there and paid that terrible price for terrorism.
“So I wanted to express my sympathy, my condolences and to say that the way we want to honor them is to make sure that we don’t have another terrorist attack in the United States.”

I’m not trying to start something, especially with 9/11, but why did it happen? I mean, we know how, what, and who, but I think the why is something heavily debated. Is Senator Mikulski referring to the idea that U.S. involvement in the Middle East and our support of Israel is why it happened? (all things she supported). Is she referring to America’s freedoms as being a symbol of something that radical muslim exteremists hate? what is the reason that Senator Mikulski doesn’t want us to forget?
