“Our Justice (?) System”
Saturday September 27 from 8:30 am – 10 am
Featuring Rev. J.B. Redding, J.D., and Harford County Sheriff Jesse Bane
We lead the world in the number of citizens we have imprisoned. Over the past 30 years our ineffective ‘war’ on drugs has resulted in the jailing of thousands of poor people, especially those of color, for minor drug infractions whose sentences are out of proportion compared to their drug use. It has created an underclass which has difficulty finding jobs and housing, or coming close to realizing its talents and potential, a great loss to our society. We now have for-profit prisons with little accountability, an overwhelmed court system, and police who are hampered in their efforts to fight serious crime. Our current justice system imposes a heavy moral, social and economic burden on all of us. We seek to raise awareness of this issue.
All are Welcome No Reservations Complimentary Breakfast

NEWS FROM THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT
Immunizations:
School and public health officials in Harford County urge parents to make sure their children are properly immunized by the start of school to meet new state regulations. Seventh graders in Harford must receive their Tdap and Meningitis vaccines by Sept 12 or be excluded from school the following Monday. Other new vaccination requirements exist for children entering kindergarten in 2014. For more information on school immunization requirement visit the Harford County Health Department website at www.harfordcountyhealth.com.
In preparation for the new requirements, local health departments are holding special back-to-school clinics throughout the state. Parents should call their doctor or local health department to learn if their child needs any of the school-required vaccinations and make arrangements to receive the missing vaccines so their child will not be excluded from school.
Children without insurance or any student who has difficulty obtaining these vaccines through their healthcare provider should call the Harford County Health Department at 410-612-1774 to schedule an appointment to receive the Tdap and/or Meningitis vaccine(s) at no cost. When parents call, they’ll be informed about a special clinic we are conducting on Friday, September 12th from 2:00 – 4:00p at our Woodbridge Offices in Edgewood for administration of these immunizations to incoming seventh graders. However, parents must call our Communicable Disease Unit at 410-612-1774 to schedule an appointment time that day.

September’s Performer at the Deer Creek Coffeehouse–Sean Tyrrell
Currently on tour in the U.S. promoting his 2014 CD release, “Moonlight on Galway Bay”, Sean performs original and traditional Irish songs with deep emotion and empathy. Born in Galway and presently residing in the Burren, County Clare, Sean plays guitar, mandocello and banjo.
These days, there can be few singers of traditional, folk or blues music who can deliver their message with simplicity, honesty and directness in the face of the tidal wave of twenty first century pop commercialism. In Sean Tyrrell we witness such a singer/songwriter in the best bardic tradition-as historian, poet, artist, musician and entertainer.
After much deliberation Sean recorded “Moonlight On Galway Bay”. A suggestion made by Davy Spillane to cover these much-hackneyed classics way back in the early 90’s was the kernel for this album. A chance request for “Galway Bay” from an old lady at the Milwaukee festival many years later got Sean thinking. Once he read the lyrics he was hooked. Humbled by what he had ignorantly regarded as songs for the corned beef and cabbage circuit he set to work learning them. He has taken these old gems and lovingly breathed new life into them.
