CECIL COUNTY, MD (August 18, 2014) – Deputy State Fire Marshals investigated a two alarm fire at 714 Susquehanna Avenue in Perryville early this morning. The occupants were alerted to the fire when their smoke alarm sounded and the occupants discovered fire in the 2nd floor bathroom exhaust fan.
Nearly 50 firefighters from Perryville, Port Deposit, Rising Sun, Perry Point, North East, Havre de Grace and Aberdeen fire departments responded to the scene involving five row houses of a ten unit structure. It took approximately 90 minutes to control the stubborn blaze that traveled through the common attic void space above the units. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Fifteen occupants have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. An initial damage loss estimate has been placed at $200,000 for the structure and contents of the two story dwellings.
