An Edgewood home was seriously damaged in an accidental Monday morning fire, authorities said.
The fire was reported just before 11:30 a.m. Monday in a split-level home on the 2200 block of Rosewood Drive in Edgewood, according to a statement from the Office of the State Fire Marshal. An automatic fire alarm initially contacted 911, after which a passerby discovered smoke coming from the home’s basement. A total of 50 firefighters from the Abingdon, Joppa-Magnolia, Bel Air and Aberdeen Proving Ground fire companies responded and brought the blaze under control in 10 minutes, containing it to the home’s basement.
Investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature, and was traced to a mechanical fault in a coffee maker. According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, damage to the home was estimated at $25,000, and damages to its contents was estimated at $25,000. Four adults and three children were displaced as a result of the fire.
