A Street man was fatally shot early Monday morning in what police said appeared to be a targeted home invasion.
According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home in the 1200 block of Trappe Road in Street just after 1 a.m. for a report of a home invasion. Arriving at the scene, deputies found Thomas Anderson, 38, dead of a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Anderson’s family was home at the time of the incident, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Michael Crabbs said; his wife sustained a minor injury and refused treatment at the scene. The family told investigators that several unknown suspects broke through the home’s front door and confronted Anderson. Anderson was shot during the altercation, and died of his wounds at the scene.
Crabbs said that a “very preliminary” investigation found that Anderson appears to have been targeted; however, it is not clear whether he knew the suspects.

At least Maryland still permits its subjects to defend themselves inside the home. Sounds like my wife and I need another date at the range.

A homeowner defending their life, and stopping a threat on their life in their home has nothing to do with “anarchy in the streets.”

Pleeeease, people! Targeted! Home invasions are usually drug related. Dealers tend to have significant amounts of cash and drugs. The money is free cash and the drugs can be sold for more money. This invasion and the one in Havre de Grace were probably both drug related.
This is exactly why we need to keep the underground economy propped up. Lots of cash to be made when there’s no way to enforce contracts between consenting adults except through the use of violence.

How do you know the perpetrators weren’t legal gun owners? They became criminals the moment they purchase a gun. A gun can only be used to kill or hurt someone as it isn’t an accessory to deter crime or confrontation.
I am so sad to hear of the news and my heartfelt sympathy goes out to this man’s family, friends and neighbors. What a frightening thing to happen, especially to what used to be a quiet, serene and bucolic Harford County.

That was the final and revised form as there were other forms adopted by other states and differences between the House of Representatives and the Senate. it goes on to explain that both a well regulated law applies to both the militia and an individual’s right to bear arms. Clearly, as of this moment the Supreme Court hasn’t been inclined to curtail that right but it has in numerous decisions cut away some of the broad provisions of the law as to who can bear arms and under what conditions and what types of arms would be part of a well regulated right which applies to both the state and the individual… I know you Jesus freaks believe the right to kill and defend your property but the times have changed as your civil rights and redress goes further today than in did during colonial types. You can’t just shoot someone without warning or knowledge of intent. To the Professor, having a gun has nothing to do with whether someone is “smarter” or not. Let me first preface my comments with: all gun owners need to be responsible — receive proper training in handling a gun and always make sure that it is stored safely, especially around children and adolescents.
With that said, having protection against someone invading your home with malicious intent is not a bad thing. There’s so much violence in the streets these days that at least one should be able to feel safe in their home.

This is why a loaded shotgun is easily accessible in my home. Both of my kids have their Hunter Safety cards, know how to use and RESPECT a firearm, and know where it is. Its start with Safety. Well, I am employed and don’t need to come to nobody’s house to steal. If I did though, I would make sure I’d bring a gun too. A pissing contest or a shooting contest it is all the same. Society can work better than have archaic law on the books that promotes killing and violence. Just because it is in the Constitution or isn’t doesn’t mean it can’t be improved. The Supreme Court has said that the government does have the right by way of state law to regulate arms. Leave it to the NRA? Thanks for the robbery update but I think a murder just happened because the ease in which guns can be obtained legal or otherwise. It would be nice if everyone could be screened by a blood test to determine good judgment in having a gun but unfortunately our nation’s forefathers were wrong on guns as they were on slavery. Something will just take sometime to be corrected. Same as biracial marriage and now gay marriage. Mark these words to be self evident in due time.
It is easy to obtain a gun illegally. It is much more difficult to obtain a gun legally. If your goal is to make it more difficult to obtain a gun that would only apply to those obtained legally. Illegal gun would still be easy to obtain.

Why? Because the sale of legally obtained guns is unregulated at resale, straw man sales and guns shows. It is harder to buy a car, have it registered and resold because there is regulation. The NRA’s goal is to sell weapons and will do anything to keep the right to bear arms as unrestricted as possible. I will grant that our culture has a deep love with guns because nothing symbolizes freedom that the right to protect yourself and your property and on many levels I don’t really have a problem with legal ownership but more with the construct of the law, its reformation over time until the 2nd amendment was passed and the current state of guns, violence and unfettered resale of weapons without any oversight. I don’t know that the forefathers saw the ability to develop semi-automatic, automatic and multiple magazine rounds that can be fired. In their world only single shot weapons were available.
To your other point that illegal guns as just easier to obtain? I don’t know of any shop that advertises and sales illegal guns??? Maybe you need to have access it because you are a felon but I am not, so I wouldn’t even know where to go to get an illegal weapon. I don’t think most people fall under your premise and most mass shootings don’t happen with illegally purchased weapons either.
Since you’re so anti-gun professor, why don’t you act on your convictions and put a sign in your front yard (or front door if you live in an apartment) stating “This is a gun free home”? You must be really isolated in your ivory tower to not know MD gun laws.
MD has required a firearms dealer or the state police be involved in ANY transfer of a handgun, including secondary sales and gifts for decades. Also, you’re required to attend training, supply fingerprints, provide a photograph, and pay a fee to receive a Handgun Qualification License (which you must present to the dealer) before you can receive a handgun.
There is no 8-day wait to buy a car, but there is to buy a handgun in MD.
….and don’t forget the bullet ballistic fingerprint register from a fired round of the gun, a minimum magazine capacity restriction, a registration fee that is paid to the state every few years on your weapons and the FBI background check that takes up to 30 days.

I believe you touched on the key point missed by so many, and that is that evil does exist. You cannot reason with it and it will show you no mercy. And that is why there are basic rights, in fact primal rights, that are core to our existence as individual human beings.
